Stephen Douglas wrote on his blog that he estimates there are around 10,000 domainers. It doesn't seem like a lot of people to me. In actuallity, I believe there's much more as more people discovering about domaining every day. Domaining is really becoming global fast. Just curious what's everyone's thoughts on this?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

This question was raised in the past, and the answer is complicated because there are different "Degrees" of domainers. Those who are full-time - those who are long term invested - those who do it part time - those who do it for fun. I think a true domainer is someone who makes a living specifically involved in or around domain names. (Parking, Resale, Direct traffic nagication, ect). In that case? I would think it would be a bit fewer then Stephen Douglas suggests, perhaps about half. 5,000

I agree with Spade; there are +75000 members on NamePros, but I bet that very few of them do domaining as their full time job, which is what I'm guessing this guy was saying.

I would agree in part with Spade but I don't think you need to be full-time to be considered a domainer...

I have nearly 3,000 domains but it is only a side-line to my other businesses... an investment if you like but fun too.... I will give it more time as & when required but I'd say I give it no more than 12 hrs a week at present (& that includes the time I spend on the forums ;)

There are almost 80,000 of them at namepros. Ohh sorry thats how many registrations there are....

Anyways if we are talking about full time hardcore domainers i would have to say 10,000 would be on the money. There are prolly alot of domainers that choose not to participate in these types of communities.

I'd agree that that the number of full-time domainers sits around 5-10K. Full time meaning that their primary source of income is directly related to domain revenue. :gl:

I'm somewhat similar to you. I work about 60 hours a week outside of domaining and put into domaining whatever energy I have left after that (maybe 10 hours of domaining (on Namepros), 10 hours of Namepros while not selling domains, and 10 hours on my LLLL.com blog).

I have about 2500 domains and it's also a "fun" investment to me as well :)

As much as I'd love to cash in big with domains, I like the peace of mind of knowing I have a steady income outside of domaining.

Full time, making there living off this. ~2k would be my guess.

Part time, doing very well, 5K-6K

Do it as a hobby, 15-20K

Have done it and check back every so often 50-60K i would say.

I cant name 10 people on this forum who make a living of domain names.

Only those who got in early or have lots of money can make a living just buying /selling domains and through parking - less than 10 K.
Others may have large numbers of domains , make money , but not by selling domains.
