It has of late occurred to me to add an additional few years of registration to each of my quality domains as a way of increasing potential buyer offers (this removes some hope they may have to snap them up at auction).

My question is, do you employ this approach and if you were interested in pursuing a domain, would it increase your at hand interest to know that a domain will not be dropping for at least a few years?

If you have a three-letter dotcom don't renew it until the very last moment. Lots of people will become excited at the prospect of a three-letter dotcom dropping, then at the last moment as you renew it you can almost hear the cries of the disappointed.

It's a good idea for another reason: I recently learned that G considers domains that have been registered for many years more legit than domains that have only been registered for 1 year.

So it's also a good idea to extend the reg' term on your favorite names if you want to maximize your G rankings, which may in turn help to maximize your PPC earnings if your domains are parked.

I would be more apt to contact and make a bid if I knew the domain was parked and regged for several years. I would also probably resign myself to the fact that the owner wanted more money than I would probably be willing to pay.

I always register my domains for a year but if I come across a premium name I might consider reigstering it for 2 or 3 years.

I reg domains for one year at A time to conserve money for more regs on names I plan to sell. After hearing how the big G looks at domains, will start regging domains I plan on keeping to develop for several years at A time.

I have paid good money for domains that were about to expire and were renewed in the very last moment. I get excited thinking of possible projects I could develop on it and when the domain is renewed I can’t let it go and make an offer to the owner. I probably wouldn’t have noticed them if they hadn’t been once about to expire.

usually I register my domains for a year, however - one of my current projects is going so good I'll proably go ahead and register them for 5+ years - and the project contains over 30 domains, so I'll be spending a little money ;)

I normally just reg ones for a year unless i really want them and really don't want to not have the money when it comes to when i have to renew !

Depends what the domain is, and what you intend to use it for ;)

E.g. Business sites = Yes
Personal sites = No

LOL I have seen many cases of these already.
People will pay for the renewal fee just before the deadline, and people already start to bid for the domain in the "catch-the-dropped-domain" services.

Nah, you will just scare people off and persuade them to register .BIZ instead. :lala:
