How Google Reads A Page

When Google views a page (this is my understanding) it goes from left to right, top to bottom.

So, my question is, does it read the site as it would appear in a browser, or does it read the code in this way? If I use CSS to have a sidebar on the right, and in the code this comes after the main content bar, does Google "see" it after all the content, or does it know to read the sidebar as we would see it in a browser?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

some bots spider pages right to left, not sure about google though...

google would spider the as it sees it, it wouldnt no where the table/css div is. so it doesnt matter

Actually there's nothing that shows HOW the googlebot sees a webpage.. that simply shows how you can allow/disallow googlebots from crawling your webpage.

Honestly though, I don't think googlebot really cares about sidebar/content loading first. I went to this website before that shows you how google would see your website, and all it showed was every word on that page without the formatting. Googlebots also look at links... so as for layout, design, structure, I don't think it could care at all (come on, it's a bot).

I read an SEO article saying you should put your menu on the right because of how Google reads the page, that way it sees your content before your menu.

I also wonder if it reads the whole page or limited to some kbytes... What if the page is very long? Will it spider the whole page.

yes, one thing there bots do is copy everything. My sites get spammed by google's bots a few thousand times a month.
