Because at the time, only one buyer for each name was willing to bid that amount or more.

Why did hosting.mobi reach over $100,000? Because more than one buyer was willing to go that high.

Then why only one buyer?
Does that mean that few people wants .mobi and .mobi is not a good choice for domainers and site owners?
Or does it mean that few people think .mobi can be good investment and the price will up and up?

like telephones.mobi, it is so easy to creat telephone number index for business list and can take profit from the site, why only 500$? Nobody think it a good business?

I'm sure that many people here at NamePros (let alone the wider world) would be more than happy to buy domains from this list at the reserve prices.

There were 100 (actually 110) .mobi auctions scheduled to end at the same hour and the same minute: 12.20 PM EST.

I was watching the bidding along with many other NP members, and I can tell you there was no way one could properly follow the action on more than a dozen or so domains. The only time proper decision making became possible was when hosting.mobi was the only domain remaining in play - then we could all see what was happening and if we had the money we would have had just enough time to think whether to bid further or to fold.

Unless many people get to the stage of agonizing over that decision, focusing on one domain (without having to flip between screens in a panic) while watching the competitors bids come in, it is practically guaranteed that bids are much lower than the fair market price.

This is just one of the many 'technical' reasons. We've covered most of them at great length in threads such as this one:

http://www.namepros.com/dot-mobi/378028-vote-will-any-premium-mtld-100-a.html

We were not successful in helping Sedo/MTLD help themselves, but it wasn't for want of trying.

If I really get started on this topic we'll be here forever, so I won't.

Rant over (for now).

they are actually contacting bidders who were high for where they didnt make the reserve. I was the high for one and may be able to purcahse at my bid price

I'm against reserves on Mtld names. They should just let the market work and get all the names out.

Agreed. If the extension's success was 100% certain, the market would bear it better. Otherwise, let things progress naturally.

IMHO that would be a good approach, unless it's combined with some current auction arrangements at Sedo, namely:

- 100 .mobi auctions – mostly with broad appeal – scheduled to close all at the same time (and no, the extension of time for bids in the last few minutes does not negate this crucial point – such anti-sniping mechanism would be necessary even if auctions closed at a rate of say one per hour);

- no bidding action showing on the home page - which has a box for exactly that purpose - and which offers the visitor no way of knowing that only dotCOMs and very few other tlds are allowed on the home page (hence the average Sedo visitor doesn’t have to be stupid or illiterate to assume they can see all closing soon auctions on the front page - as they rightly do at Sedo’s traditional competitor, Afternic)

- insufficient or non-existent proactive marketing to people who have bought or sold .mobis in the past through them (did you ever get an email from Sedo about the auction?)

- putting the home page ad for the auction exactly where most people's blind spot is in terms of advertising, and leaving a blinking flashing ad directly above it to advertise a different lot of domains expiring the same day (as was the case throughout the closing stages of all 100 MTLD .mobi auctions, and even some time after the last one had closed). This point does not imply that Sedo are trying to use the spontaneous interest in the MTLD .mobis to sell more of their non-mobi inventory, as the other auction referenced here had already closed about an hour earlier.

We tried to highlight most of these points in advance last time, so that one doesn’t have to learn from bitter experience:

http://www.namepros.com/378028-vote-will-any-premium-mtld-100-a-2.html#post2236656

Didn’t help last time, but surely they would have to draw some key lessons from the experience highlighted in the OP and at least schedule things better this time.

Surely they can’t fail to do so.

Well, I guess I’d better check

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

who will search for the cell, dad, atms, beds on the go ?

You may start hunderds of such threads about the latest prices for
.mobi domains it will not help to the mobile web TILL the Porn industry will start
growing. Growing huge industry will push the other technologies to grow as well.
The exact scheme as it was with PC based web years ago.
Only porn, movies, etc will help to grow the mobile media, period.

I invested in mobi as well but i never expected to see the high .mobi names prices till
i will start to get a .mobi based porn spam.
Wait for the porn spam with mobi developed sites - then you may relax , everything else will be on demand as well :)
