How do I set up an email list?

I would like to set up an email list/newsletter on one of my sites.

I have never done this before, and I am not sure where to start.

Can anyone tell me the best, easiest way to do this?

Is it best to use a WordPress plugin, or pay for a service.

What are the best companies to use?

Thanks in advance...

First thing to do is read the t&c of your hosting company - some of them restrict the number of messages you can send in a given period of time.

If you use an outside service, MailChimp, AWeber, Constant Contact - all good.

You have chosen the correct service provider, ie., MailChimp. It is good. You can use it freely for a select no. of users. If that limit is crossed, then you need to pay for the service.

There are many free scripts which can be easily installed on your webspace. One of the most popular is phpList.

Other way is subscriber on your blog, but for this you need a plugin on your Wordpress.

Mailchimp is fine for a non-commercial website but it's a big no no for affiliate marketing sites. Aweber is the way to go if you are into list building for real business. Transferring email lists can be a big hassle in the future.

Good luck!
