I have a very generic name, AustraliaMates(.)com. Afternic deleted it because it violates trademarks. I did a search through the trademark database and cant find anything for these 2 words together. Can somebody tell me who owns the trademark on this name or how can I find out. I checked for the .net version and nothing. Thanks

Or put " " around the two words and see what pops up in Google.

I did a search on uspto.gov for "australia mates" (with the space. There was no result for "australiamate" without the space) and got this:
http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfiel...h&a_search=Submit+Query&a_search=Submit+Query

Maybe you should try to find out who owns mates.au? Perhaps they trademarked the name.

I also think Australiamates is generic...really strange!

You can't link to the uspto that way. All searches use a temporary url that times out. If you want to link to something specific you can link to the tarr status page.

I think I solved this puzzle for you.
Afternic always refused to list my domains: theNewYorkGrimes.com, NYgrimes.com and NewYorkGrimes.com since they resembled the New York Times too much. (I planned to start a spoof news site - never had the time)
So knowing that, rather than analysing "australia mates", I searched around for terms similar to your domain and within about 10 minutes everything started falling into place:
- I think Afternic has a problem with your domain because of ... the Mates condoms. Although supposedly really popular on the UK market, they are manufactured by an Australian based company, Ansell Limited (formerly known as Pacific Dunlop Limited.)

Hope this helps, REPs appreciated. :)
