:hi:
I would like to add a free membership - login & password feature to my site. The site isn't on the net yet. I'm creating it in dreamweaver now.
My hosting package doesn't offer me - Perl Support - PHP Support - MySQL - phpMyAdmin - FrontPage Support!
The reason I need membership is so that people can upload their own photos onto my site.
Also I have blueyonder telewest broadband - is it true that I can have free unlimited hosting capabilities if I have broadband?

Ouch, you need a new host. You can't really have a login system without PHP.

Without PHP or any scripting language how can you even check that it is the right or wrong password. So the first step is to get a PHP enabled hosting.

Thanks for your replies!

I forgot to say that I can add the PHP etc features for extra costs but I have had a few web hosting offers from pms so will prob go elsewhere anyway.

Once I have PHP is it easy to set up a login password feature?

Also when finding a new host. No matter how big of a factor price is - don't get 1and1. Its evil.

hello blogamble
a login screen is just an interface for allowing limited members to your programs or features u provide. u can do a login screen without a db also but that will be just one general userid and password which anyone looking at the source can understand. its always better to have a db for your login as there will be different members using different ids and passwords and obviously it required a server side script either in php, asp or anyother languages. so if u dont have a db facility in ur server either take a new server and space or u can share ur db with other sites who can allow you to put db and php or asp in their site..

hope this helps u

for script to be installed on your site, look at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/zebraz
ZebraZ (pronounced "Zebra Zee") is a membership management system based on PHP and MySQL for clubs or organizations but could also be used for other uses which require tracking of people, their contact information, groups they belong to and payments.

or this one:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/clubdata
A Club member administration tool written in PHP using a MySQL database. Clubdata is highly configurable, supports different membership types, a lot of membership features, mass e-mails, Excel-export, PDF-export and sophisticated authentication.
for remotely hosted membership site host it for free with www.bravenet.com (just for newbies) - ad supported/sponsored.

Yes, you need to use a scripting language to do the job. If you are ready for it, you can visit hotscripts.com and find plenty of scripts that can do the job you are asking for.
