You might have a possible Trademark issue because as you know HostGator.com is a very well known web hosting website. Hostgator sounds okay, but host-a-gator just sounds really bad.

I strongly suggest you let this name expire and find another web host name. Reg fee

All the above appraisals are accurate. Besides -- Host a gator? What is a gator, in net- speak? IS there a gator, in net-speak? Sell it on eBay and try to get your reg fees back.

I doubt you will get much if any typo traffic from that, if you do go to cj.com and sign up for their affiliate program and make a nice information page with your referral link on it to make some cash. As is registration fee, if traffic does end up on it then you can tell us the value by your CJ referral signups. As far as trademark issue goes I believe there are a few close domains or other extension domains doing what I said above, doesn't make it right but I know a few have been up a while and hostgator does know about them, they are probably happy with the new customer referrals and don't bother to complain, after all it is new customers for them, if you put your own hosting company on it they would probably come at ya, if your gonna send the traffic to them, I doubt you will hear anything as others have been doing it for quite a while.

wow i got so much response and I am thankful to you.
I was thinking redirecting my domain to hostgator with my affiliate link. I have a hosting account with hostgator and they are too good hosting company.
but if its a copyright issue I would be willing to give up. do you think I should contact them and ask if i can do this. If I promote my affiliate link thorugh google do you think hostgator would mind ?

probably be the safest bet, if you just send traffic and then they say we won't pay you for your signups do to you using a close name, better to find out ahead of time if they approve of your methods.

I had some really interesting feedback from you guys about this domain especially from Jay. I owe him a lot. I just thought I will update you with my domain. I have attached a screenshot of my stats since the last 15 days. regsitered a domain for less than $10 at namecheap.com Did nothing other than to signup for an affiliate porgram for hostgator.com . and then forwarded by domain hostagator.com to hostgator.com So far in my opnion this domain has done fairly well as you can see from the image attached . maybe its luck but I do think the domain has value.
