.cn and .jp are considered to be of high potential. SOme more or less big sales already happened with domains in these TLDs

All of those names have potential, as well as drawbacks...
.jp's are of course Japan, a powerful commerical/capital center.
However, they also cost 8 - 10 times .com's, so make sure the name really is quality, and not overly speculative.
.cn's, we'll see which way the country goes (restrictions/free trade/etc) but they are the "home extension" of such a huge populace that it would be hard to imagine it not being a good play for quality keywords.
Feel free to search the forum for other more involved discussions of these discussions!

It is worthwhile having some knowledge of and interest in the cultures of these countries when considering registering a domain. I doubt if many of the speculative generic .jp names one can see listed on eg sedo were worth bothering with (have a look), other than maybe tourism and accommodation names. They are all niche markets which have their fans but have not yet attracted the level of speculative frenzy as with the .in market. All mainline (not South Seas) ccTLDs are IMHO the main alternative to .coms for end user purchase. It is the cultural factor which presents more of a challenge to the domainer rather than the no-brainer 3 character crap extension name game that occupies the attentions of too many....
