Hi, I was wondering about hiring people to post. Is this OK? I just set up a new forum that is aimed at teen and tween girls. However, I don't know where to go to get them to come to my site. So basically I am asking if it is right or wrong to go to forums or hire a freelancer and get people to sign-up and post as "teens and tweens" I feel a little akward doing this, but I also want this board to take off. I sort of asked this befor in webdesign reviews, but only got 1 reply.

Also, if anyone wants to look at it and give me some suggestions, the site is girlforum.org Ireally, really would like some answers and feedback. Thanks, Mark

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

This is a quite common practice and I wouldn't feel bad doing it. Many startup forums hire people to make posts as nobody wants to post on a forum that is dead. Hopefully it just needs an initial kickstart and then the "real members" will begin making the majority of activity at which point you can terminate the ghost posters.

Nothing wrong with it. Agree wholeheartedly with AussieDomainer. Couldn't have explained better.

I see many people doing such thing. This is to get your forum active and look live. I guess it is a ok thing to do.

But if I was you, then I would definitely concentrate on getting targeted traffic. I would invest my time figuring out how and where to get the traffic. Or I would simply try to do some SEO to get organic traffic.

There is something about fake posts/threads in a forum that I personally do not feel ok about.

You can try using something like GetAFreelancer.com or a similar service. You will probably have hundreds of bidders interested in this type of a project.

Yeah, you could likely hire a team of hard working paid-little people to give your forum a real boost...

Makes sense to me, most forums need a hand and the posters do a decent job these days making a real effort to add some decent content to the posts.

Meanehile, you should be banging away at the keyboard youself posting on all other girl/teen related websites!

No issue

Plus if you find someone from that group who does a good job you could hire them to "moderate" the forum. Look for people located in different parts of the world so someone is always online (Aussie and North American posters).

I've seen many people advertise for 'forum posters' on another board, and I have tried it myself. One of the potential problems is that you will get a lot of people who are not native English speakers or people that just leave lame comments. In addition (when I tried it) a lot of people where continuously copying and pasting stuff from other sites beacuse they could not think of anything original to say -- fwiw, my subject was a little technical and I did run it as a 'writing contest' so maybe that's why people resorted to copy/pasting. However, from what I can see of people that advertise for 'forum posters', they continually get frustrated with posters and the quality of posts and grammar. Maybe they get what they pay for because their rates tend to be from $0.07 to $0.15 per post. (I paid much more)

In any event, I think it can be done, but you have to play 'referee' to get quality posts.

Good luck with your project.

That's the problem when you hired a paid poster but the per post rate is too low. I have seen a lot of workers in the other forums too. If a person really wants a quality they must pay about $.50 cents per posts.

Sure there will be no problem with it.I often use this way for my newly established forums.

Reasonable Price

I would suggest you sell them for around $20-$25. This should also vary based on the quality of the banner. Furthermore, it should be a reasonable price for which to entice prospective buyers.

I think many people do this kind of promotion. I would suggest to compare price of freelance with Amazon mechanical turk. It might be cheaper in my opinion.

Good luck,

Hiring people to post on a forum is possible the only way to go around unless you are a big company with a huge fan following. You could hire them from various forums online like Digitalpoint,etc..

Hiring people is a way of making post. I've ran a forum in the past myself which became pretty succesful. I wasn't really for hiring people, so I basicly asked some good friends to post there from time to time.

Another thing I did, which probally worked out for the best. Is doing "post exchanges" with other forums. There is a forum: www.theadminzone.org which has a full section dedicated to post exchanges. I suggest you take a look there and start doing some :).

And like said in this thread, getting a "team" is a common way to succes. If you have a driven team, they keep coming with idea's, promoting your forum and most important, they post more than the regular member. Making a forum succesful can't be done all by yourself.

Like others have already said, Its a common practice and one of the mandatory step in making your forum successful. It helps you in showing unregistered visitors that the forum is crowded/active and there are people discussing different things.
