Hi, I'm Jake from South Africa, currently living in northern Kwazulu-Natal. Over the past few years I have become increasingly interested in developing online skills in website development and pursuing ways of earning income from this, but at this point I have no actual expertise buying and selling domains or earning income online.

Domaining appealed to me for highlighting the intrinsic value that a name can have. However i am glad that i didn't jump at the first opportunity to hand reg a ton of domains. Once I found this site and started reading the forums I saw it will require a great deal more time and research than the hype can make you believe! But I've found the market interesting and active, and have been reading constantly about it.

At this point my only experience in domaining is the few weeks of reading forums and articles about it. I haven't bought or registered any domains yet and am still considering my best options.

I would like to learn how to go about buying and selling domains, small values at first, just to get used to the nuts and bolts of it all. But I'm still unsure whether to handreg a couple or rather investing in drop-catching software. I would love to get more information of hardware required in terms of line speed, computer processing, other hardware etc to ensure you are competitive to catch sites you've earmarked.

As well as buying and selling domains, I'd like to invest in a few good names that I could use with areas of expertise to turn into project sites for various ideas I've had over the years. These range from medical sites, open source projects, communal and urban gardening, community development, integrated healthcare projects, biofeedback training and other fields that I have some knowledge of. These are mid- to long-term goals, but ones that i think will require better knowledge of domain investing, website development, programming and marketing.

As for short term goals, I think I will start small with $100 and try my luck with a few $20 domains. Any tips or advice is always appreciated.

Glad to be joining everyone here at namepros! This forum has been the best find in a long time.
Cheers,
Jake

Hi Jake, welcome! We're both starting out on the NP platform around the same time, looking forward to watching your progress and exchanging experiences with you along the way. Your strategy and overall mindset sounds great, no doubt that you'll be an official domainer when you're ready to start with the flipping. Regards, Clint.
