There is no such thing as unlimited space and bandwidth. Every server has its limits. If interested, we can help you with your hosting for your media site. If you could list your exact needs we would be glad to assist you.
icic.....i intend to have a web hosting server and a file server...do u think that it is more worthwhile to have one combined or seperate....like one for web hosting...one for file stoarage....
for my media space and site popularity...i think i would need 100gb of space and around 300gb bandiwith....
is it possible to buy a server at home? means i create my own server and host my files....how much will that cost? i suppose my server need to be on 24 hours? electricity bills?
As a general rule I keep web servers and file servers separate. Who wants to loose all their data when your web server gets 0wned by some script kiddie because of a bug in some free script you're running.
Personally I'd get a box with two main boards and slot it into a data centre.
When I worked for an ISP that did some significant hosting, we saw that virtually everyone (except porn site) hosts overestimated their needs. Bandwidth for most sites--excepting those that had streaming--was invariably 1/10th or less than the estimates. Unless there's is actual experience in your site's demand, I would suggest you get a decent host plan from a company like www.ez1web.com or www.hostgator.com and work with that until you trully need more.
Be cautious--if your site is trully important do NOT host it with some character who claims he will give you umlimited space or bandwidth--it's impossible for a real company to do that.
