I'm designing a company website. I'm relatively new to CSS and I'm having trouble creating what seems to me a very simple design:
  • body background: fixed full page image
  • banner: fixed, 100 pixels high, full-width, transparent background
  • nav bar: fixed, 200 px wide, auto-height, opaque nav icons, semi-transparent tiled image background
  • content box: scrolling, auto height, auto width, opaque text, semi-transparent tiled image background
  • footer: fixed, 30 px high, full width, transparent background
mockup:

Here is as far as I could get in the actual design:

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

What kind of help do you need? Seems to me your getting along pretty good, just need to insert the banner image either by making it a div background or just inserting it normaly

Hey executive, that looks like a good start to me. Keep playing around and trying different things out until you get the hang of it. There are lots of CSS tutorials online too, so be sure to check that out!

Brian, the attempt right now doesn't look anything like my mockup and does not fit the description either. (for starters, the text is semi-transparent and there's borders all over the place)

redking, I've read several tutorials, and none go too deep into advanced layouts. There's articles here and there that cover individual aspects such as transparency or scrollling etc. but none about tying a whole page together. I've been playing for a few weeks now to no avail. My main problem is creating that scrolling content box which scales to the window size. In the method I am attempting to use now, I can't seem to make the borders not show.
