Hey everyone!! Im new to this whole domain world, but rapidly learning. I would love to know some of the best sites to go to search for domains. Also some sites where i can check the hits for the site. The only place Ive found so far is google.com/trends and the domain has to be in the top 100,000 to even show a chart. and also are there anymore things i should run a domain through before buying it. Theres one thing that im really confused on and trying to learn...is how to transfer domains after you sell them on ebay or where ever. I know this is alot of information i need to learn, but i thought this would be the best place to learn right!! I hope to get some great info from you guys and to continue learning.

Thanks

Simple advice: put your credit card away.

Read this and other forums for a while - until you know the answers to many of the threads before you open them.

Go to the "for sale" areas of forums (without your card) and read through the long lists posted there at cheap prices - Someone paid registration fees (and often renewals) for all those names and now they are trying to get out.

While sometimes you read about some new arrival pulling off a big sale (maybe true) the odds are that domains bought without knowledge will be in those "for sale cheap" listings in about a year.

Yes, it would be more fun to jump in - and if you want, after a few weeks of study, go ahead and buy one name. One. It does look different from that perspective. But I have found that I am getting better and better value for my money the longer I am in this.

Good advice

Good advice Re: putting the credit card away. The only thing I would add is that it is somewhat of a shotgun business (hobby). You will probably end up with at least 10 domains you dump for each one you sell at a profit. Personally I've sold most for cheap and a few for "high" amounts ($80-$100) shortly after registering. For the life of me I can't figure out what has made the difference. Overall I am slightly head. My biggest regrets are my first few purchases that I know know I paid too much for. Be careful.

Regarding transfering after you sell on ebay, it depends on the registrar. You usually don't want to "transfer" you want to "push" or "change ownership"

For example, to change ownership on Godaddy or one of their resellers, just go to the domain management page, check the domain's checkbox, then click "Account Change" on the menu at the top. The rest is fairly straight forward.

If you need any help with this, PM me.
