Help Me Find a New PC!

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to find a gaming PC to run some of my games on, and use it as my all-around home computer. Last July I bought one on eBay, but it didn't even run the not-so-graphic-intense game from 2000 (Nascar Heat) I was trying to run.

Your challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to find me a "decent" gaming PC for under $500. It doesn't need to have a monitor, keyboard, speakers, or other external stuff -- just the system (that is hopefully ready to go). I'd like for it to have at least a CDRW/DVD drive in it by itself, and I'd really like to just plug in my monitor and stuff and be ready to go.

I know it may be difficult to find anything good for under $500 USD, so that's why I'm offering the reward of $400 NP or a free domain registration at NamePros for the poster of the one I eventually purchase (which may not be any...).

I'd really like it to be able to run the graphic-intensive Nascar Racing 2003 Season by Sierra.

Thanks and good luck!
Steve B-)

# Hard Drive: 160 GB
# RAM: 512 MB
# Optical Drive 1:DVD +/-RW
# Optical Drive 2: CD +/-RW
# Connectivity: 10/100 Ethernet, 56K modem
# Operating System: Windows XP Home edition, SP2
# Graphics: Integrated video/graphics card with up to 128 MB of allocated video memory
# Presario SR1620NX desktop PC
# Power cord
# Keyboard
# Scroller mouse
# Compaq Software Pack

Your Price: $329.00

At this price, you could probably buy a graphics card for it, as it only has integrated graphics. Definitely could play the game you mentioned. Not bad for the specs. ONLY 1 left, so if you want it.. you better hurry and get it!

Goodluck... I'll also see if I can find anything better, in which case I'll edit this post. :)

I suggest STRONGLY that you build it yourself, or you have me build it for you.

Individual components that I suggest:

Biostar Model 945P-A7A Socket 775 motherboard + Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86GHz OEM Processor--$291.99
Corsair TWINX 1024MB PC5400 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 Memory (2 x 512MB)--$106.99
Maxtor / DiamondMax 10 / 80GB / 7200 / 8MB / SATA-300 / OEM / Hard Drive--$44.99
Lite-on SHD-16P1S / 16x DVD-ROM / 48x CD-ROM / White / Internal / Drive - Retail--$19.99
DiabloTek Cool Power 400-Watt ATX 20/24-Pin Power Supply--$12.99
Now is where you run into variable options. First choice:

If you want to upgrade to a high-end video card, it will run you an extra $100-$400, dependant on the card. For software from 2003, you will be fine without this addon.

Second choice:

If you want a new case, you can buy one for $40 (I recommend the Ultra Mid-T, which is $14.95 after rebates). If you don't feel that you need it, odds are that you can use your existing case.

The total for a system with a new case, using these recommended components, is $491.90 (after rebates) + shipping. If you want to learn how to build a computer using raw components, PM me and I will provide a guide.

No problem. I just hope I was able to help. I'm really into bargain hunting. I highly suggest you visit some bargain hunting forums, as they are usually the best to find good deals (fatwallet.com, slickdeals.net, hot-deals.org) etc. Alot of these are great sources for the latest deals. Alot of them are updated daily with hot deals and I've definitely seen some good deals on computer components and desktops. In fact, right now I see on slickdeals there is a Ultra Wizard Blue Mid Tower Case Free After Rebate and shipped free @ Frys (see slickdeals.net).

I also suggest you look into 'deal of the day' websites like Woot.com which sell only one thing a day. A lot of them have some really good bargains, so its worth checking back each day. Recently, two websites have been created to organize all these new deal of the day websites that have come, (dodtracker.com & zerodaydeals.com) that tracks most of these retailers.

Have a happy new year! :D

Thanks! I'm quite a bargain hunter myself. That's why I paid $189 for my 30GB iPod Video, $5 for an official iPod dock, and $8 for a box of 144 toothbrushes. :hehe:

I agree 100%, woot.com is the place to go if you just want cheap stuff, nothing too specific.
