ok, well the basic steps that are in the tucows tool are as follows (perhaps this will help)

1. unlock the domain
2. create the new nameservers by ns1.example.com and your ip addresss
3. replace the old nameservers with the ones you just created.
4. wait for the nameservers to be updated (up to 48 hours)
5. relock the domain

BTW, I always make a note of the previous nameserver configuration in case i want to revert back to it.

I don't know if this helps or not. Hope it does.

Netfirms
1. Browse to http:www.netfirms.com/members and enter the membername and password for your hosting account
2.Click Domains
3. For the domain you wish to change nameservers, click Admin
4. Click DNS Admin

For .com, .org, .info, .biz, and .net domains:

IMPORTANT: In order to modify nameservers for your domain, your domain must be in UNLOCK status first.
Follow the Admin/Technical/Billing/Nameserver or DNS Settings sections to modify each accordingly.

NOTE: If you want to create or modify a nameserver which is based on your domain, click the Nameservers or DNS Settings option and then scroll to the bottom and follow the onscreen prompts to input nameservers for your own domain.

Reminder: 24 - 72 hours after you submit a request for an additional name server, it will be in the rotation for authoritative lookups. But if it is not setup correctly, your site may take a longer time to resolve when visitors try to find you.
