HELP: Image Hosting Site, for Mobiles.

There are a thousand image hosting sites on the web, right?

Presumably, there are a lot of free (or licensed to purchase) image hosting scripts, right?

All I want, is to take one of those, and modify it... make it smaller and more simple, so it can be used on mobile phones/devices. The .mobi registrar has provided some free templates, AND a mobile phone simulator for testing your pages.

I'm good at design and graphics, but not code and scripts, so I figure I can hire a coder/developer to do it, and fairly quickly, yes?

Can this be done easily?

Can anybody here do it for me? (paid, of course)

What do you think?

How would the user upload the image? I'm not sure if it's possible but give it a shot anyway!

Hello tm,

Dan said he thinks there is one main problem standing in the way. I asked him to post what he told me about it. Maybe if we put our minds together, we can figure it out!

It shows an error for this HTML:
Code:
<form enctype="multipart/form-data" action="" method="post">
  <input id="file" type="file" name="file"><br>
  <input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit >>">
</form>
That's as basic as I can make the HTML for a working uploader.

You could setup a MMS server (see the mms2wp plugin for ideas) or have the user email the pictures.

I think if you could manage the email idea, that would be a winner. Have the script email them back with the URL or something

But is there really a market? I mean, who wants to upload images on their phone? :/

I wanted to upload images off a friends mobile whilst I was at a Soccer match. I wanted to upload them to my blog. When I got home, I found a plugin for wordpress, can't remember the name of it, it began with an "F" though. What it did was take all the e-mails coming in from a certain account (e.g. blogpics@...), take the attachments and post them in an image gallery. Very Neat ;)

Also on my travels I found some... dirtier sites, these seemed to have no trouble with uploading their content! D-:

A friend searched the web and found a way to make it work.

http://www.developershome.com/wap/wapUpload/wap_upload.asp?page=xhtmlmpEg

It says it won't pass validation because of one small issue, but it will work. We can try to work around the code validation later.

Get busy Dan! :)

*Thanks to my friend Rob/Fundraiser (NonProfit.mobi) for finding this information.

That code shows the same error on the emulator.

Is there a specific file type I need to save it as? [I'm using .php for the HTML file.]

This is very interesting and thanks so much to DB's friend Rob for finding that site. This page here tutorial explains XHTML and some of the stuff we can do with it and some of the stuff we can't! (I'm going to post the link thread, hope that's ok!) Good luck with your site DB, people will want to use your site to hold all the photos they take with their mobile camera phones. :)
