Would anyone be willing to help me solve a few code and browser compatibility issues? My site breaks in IE 5.5 and IE 6.0. I'm pretty sure my <div> tags are simply nested improperly or whatnot, but I am hoping someone with better knowledge of coding can help me more clearly identify the problem.

Whatever the issue is, I would like to get it resolved. If IE 5.5 is hopeless, I would like to at least get the IE 6.0 issue taken care of.

The site in question is the Final Fantasy XII one in my signature. The problems can be seen in the following two screenshots:
- IE 5.5: http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/3870/ie55.png
- IE 6.0: http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/4886/ie60.png

Any help will be much appreciated and NP$ will likely follow to whoever helps me fix it.

Thanks. :tu:

It's impossible to help specifically unless you link us to your page.

Also, I wouldn't worry about designing for IE5. Anybody's grandma might still be using it, but it doesn't look like that's your target audience.

For IE6, you either need to rely more on tables (yuck, I know...) or really basic CSS...

I'm pretty sure the problem has to do with IE's margin bugs when dealing with floats. I think sometimes it adds 3 pixels and other times it doubles it.

I haven't tested any of these since I don't have IE6 on me at the moment, but here's a few ideas that usually fix IE bugs for me. One of them might work.

- Add "poisition: relative;" to one or both of the floated div's.

- Add "display: inline;" to one or both of the div's.

- Set the left div to be "float: right;" also.

- Add "margin: 0 -3px;" to the left div

Some of these might cause other problems with your layout as it is coded now.

mholt, I stated in my first post that the link is in my signature. ;) As for a way to be compatible with IE 6.0, I do not want to use tables. There must be a way to fix it with some div/css adjustments.

Jim, thank you. I will give those a try when I get a chance.

In the meantime, if anyone can view the source code and help more specifically it would be much appreciated.

Thanks. :tu:
