Hello everyone,

I have a free blog hosted on Blogger.com with a .COM domain. I want to transfer my domain and my blogger content to a paid host and use the WordPress blogging platform. The problem is that my website currently receives around 1,000-2000 visitors through Google daily. How can I safely convert to WordPress on another host, and have it not affect my pages that have a good ranking in Google?

Also, is moving to WordPress going to help me as far as search engine optimization is concerned, or is Blogger better (because Google owns Blogger)?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

see google ranking is different irresepective of where you palce it.

blogger or wordpress
but yes if you have traffic at direct links you could find it difficult to move but a carefull work will let you do all the work.

No it is not like that. Both wordpress and blogger are same for search engines.

i think it's the exact same as long as your content is the same. if i were google, i would rate self-hosted wordpress higher than blogger because there are many more splogs on blogger.

Okay, thanks for the tips everyone!

So I noticed that I can transfer all my posts from Blogger to WordPress easily. I want to switch to a paid host and add my domain and use WordPress.

How do I go through this process? It just takes a click of a button, but I don't want to lose my pages that were ranked well in Google. Will these pages get out of the search engine and lose their rankings once I transfer?

Probably yes because on blogger.com you don't have access to create the redirect to new pages now hosted elsewhere. :'(

if you're using your own domain on blogger right now you could preserve those pages and make sure permalinks remain the same. combine that with the same content on those post urls and you might be able to keep those rankings.
