Which do you need, visual basic or c++? They are both completely and utterly different languages.

Text based games for the web can be done easily in PHP, im also sure you can do it in perl if you wished. Is the game 4 web users?

If it is going to be web based then I would probably go down the route of building an API system, possibly using XML, I'm not very experienced with VB at all and managed to build a client for one of my websites using the built in XML functions

Yeah Its for a Web Based Text game.

It can be done in any language which ever is easiest i just thought vb wud be okay.

If it is browser-based, VB (and other application languages) would probably be the hardest.

VB has lots more capabilities for Web Programming.. But it is also at a disadvantage. It depends what kind of game he wants..
