I'd like to concentrate my questions to this thread. Ty for your time.

So, anyone can create domains on Namecheap and then sell? It can't be this easy? The appraisals make me doubt that I'd get that price.

How does selling work? They say you can sell one every few months, if you're at all good. That's 36000 CAD every few months? Like, this entire thing can't be real? Yes, I'm late to the party.

So, what? I just post these, then wait for this 36000 CAD every 2 months? LOL. I noticed most domain flippers aren't very good. 90% of what you see is terrible stuff. I've got at least 3 good ones so far. I've got all the domains for each.

What can I really expect? Please message me mods, and I won't create any more threads.

Wake me up to reality.

Hi,
Yep, just reg a few names, put them up for sale, sit back and watch the profits roll in :xf.grin:

Joking aside, it's not easy. It takes a lot of reading and learning before you start to understand what makes a good domain name, or more importantly, one that anybody is ever likely to want to buy. And then it might be a long hold - possibly years, so "flipping" isn't really the word.
Almost everyone who gets into domaining doesn't make much money, especially while they're learning. Many people register loads of poor quality names that they think are good ones, and then just keep renewing them, throwing money down the drain, convinced that one day they might sell, but they never will.

Having said that, it's a really interesting thing to learn, and it's easy to get the bug. And decent money can be made if, like everything else, you put in the work. I would say read as much as you can, don't pay too much attention to automated appraisals (especially on sites that are trying to sell you that very name), buy only a few names in familiar extensions while you're learning, and don't be in a rush for a sale.

Welcome to np, good luck (y)

Welcome to NamePros @g00n

Yes, anyone can register domains and list them for sale, but selling them consistently is not easy. Most domains never sell, and even experienced investors usually sell only a small percentage of their portfolio each year. Focus on learning what makes a strong domain and dont rely too much on automated appraisals.

Hi g00n,

You're smart to ask this question (and honestly, I'm not the best to answer as I make my primary living another way). However, I've been around for a while and generally know what goes on. Here are my suggestions to you; take them with a grain of salt...

1. Learn before you buy. There are great "domainer forums" and training on the business. Although people may not share the specific domains they are trying to acquire, they are very generous with good advice if you ask. You can also learn from DNJournal, DomainInvesting.com, DomainSherpa.com, and GoDaddy, which has an amazing training program. There are more, but you can start there.

2. Domain investors make money, not when they sell, but when they buy. You need to know values. What extensions sell and what extensions don't commonly sell. Obviously, .com domains are most valuable but carry a higher barrier to entry. You have to learn to buy right. Many people lose money because they don't learn this early enough.

3. To get valuable names today, you generally have to buy in the aftermarket. Watch dropping domains and bid on them. Look in the obscure corners of the world to buy domains from places that the masses haven't figured out yet. (not many of them, but they exist).

4. Get to know domain brokers - Join the ICA (Internetcommerce.org). They will be a helpful asset to you if you are serious.

5. I don't think you're too late, but be prepared to be a good businessperson, and don't consider it passive as a domain investor; to succeed, it isn't.

Wishing you the best!
