I'll be honest, I've just begun to dabble with domain buying and selling. This isn't my forte, but I wouldn't mind it if I could learn to bring in some passive monthly income.

I look forward to meeting you all.

Greetings from a fellow Utahn!

Good to see there is more than one of us here.

I'm pretty new to NamePros too, but have learned a lot in my short time here.

This is the place!

Hi cbsturg,

Welcome to NP.

There's quite a few of us earning a little or a lot of passive income off parked domains. Have a look at the parking & traffic monetization forum here for ongoing discussion.

Hello and welcome to NamePros cbsturg. If you are new to the domaining scene then you have come to the right place to learn about this exciting and interesting adventure. There are a few main rules you might want to check into which you can find here. I would also recommend you check out this, this, and this. These links will give you insight into how NamePros works and how you can earn yourself your first domain or new domains by just posting or doing odd jobs for the community.

Now why donโ€™t you tell us a little more about yourself so we donโ€™t feel as if you are a stranger, here at NamePros we donโ€™t like to view anyone as a stranger.

Regards,
Michael

Thanks for the other links, they were quite informative.

As for me, I'm just finishing up my college education (I have all of two days of classes and a week of finals left!), and work in the web development and affiliate marketing industries. I do some freelance development for a company here in Utah which pays the bills, but I'm an entrepreneur at heart and can never be fully happy making somebody else rich.

I don't expect to get rich quick, but I do expect to get rich. To that end, while I am excited about finishing up my formal education, my experience is that once you stop learning, you stop earning. I came to Namepros from my association with ABestWeb, a forum dedicated to affiliate marketing.

I've been interested in learning about the domain industry for some time, but haven't been able to dedicate the time to learn what I need to know. I'm hopeful that will change here in the immediate future and I can learn some things in an effort to create some passive income. I don't anticipate this ever being my main focus, but it's an aspect of eCommerce that I know very little about, but which intrigues me nonetheless.

All of that to say that I am looking to generate some extra dollars from the domain industry. It's not the main focus of my marketing portfolio, but I believe that it can be a dependable source of extra income.

I look forward to getting to know this community as well.

Thanks for all the nice words and warm welcomes.

Chris,

Just out of curiosity, what part of Utah are you in?

And what University are you graduating from?

I'm a proud Ute, but am a friend to all of Utah's fine universities. :)

Again, it's great to have another Utahn here at NamePros!

Reasonable levels of passive income is possible from the right domain names. You can do this through paid parking or developing sites that generate advertising revenue through advertising systems such as Google Adsense or through affiliate schemes like Commission Junction or single retailers such as Amazon.com.

I won't comment on affiliate schemes as none of my sites are affiliate orientated.

Parking is the easy approach. It's a partnership between you and the parking company. You supply your capital in the form of domains & a little of your time choosing keywords & one of a limited number of designs. They supply hosting, an advertising feed and their knowledge of how to maximize return on a parking page. You split the revenue (percentages vary).

Adsense mini-sites are similar, except that you need to do the design and optimisation yourself. There are half-way houses like 1plus.net who provide hosted, pre-configured, mini-sites and there are people that sell pre-written mini-sites for you to put your adsense code into.

Parking & pre-configured mini-sites both provide something important. A link that potential domain name buyers can use to contact you. Selling the domain isn't passive income (at least in my definition) but this is "passive marketing" which is even sweeter to me.

My best performing domains are parked. Other people are prepared to put in more effort than I can spare & make good money off small sites.
