I am sure that a number of us here were excited to see that films.tv is now on auction at sedo. (7 bidders! and no mention here) Guess someone was looking for a steal- lol

First part of the alert
No mention of the premium renewal price at $3,412.00 annually

http://www.enom.com/auctions/dotTV.asp?domain=films.TV

What a steal if it came in at a decent price! But that could be what you are getting! A stolen domain? -call me an old sceptic but it just did not seem right somehow. So I have been digging and it sure looks very suspect to me.

First pointer of this is that the admin of films.tv is an expired domain it expired in may 06 and was regged on the 12th MAY O6

http://72.14.209.104/search?q=cache...&alltime=+hec.org.uk&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=4&gl=uk

A google search of the "registrant name " reveals this person has an active interest in domains

So the current admin for this domain is an expired domain? most odd?

Films.tv is owned by a major uk plc
Home entertainment corporation plc / also known as ChoicesUK Group plc

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q="home+entertainment+corporation+plc"&btnG=Google+Search&meta=

they also owned hec.org.uk prior to expiry

Films are thier business why would they let this go?? with on demand opportunities, dvd rentals online etc it makes no sense? They were smart enough to grab it at launch why let it go with the explosion of online opportunities?

I have taken a series of screen grabs that throw some light on this

Archive.org history for films.tv
http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/8179/archiveorghistoryforfilkd0.jpg

Archive.org history for hec.org.uk
http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/4000/archiveorghistoryforhecjl8.jpg

Films.tv owner
http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/2056/filmstvownergj5.jpg

hec.org.uk current owner
http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/9656/hecorgukownerdn6.jpg

Now it may be that it dropped? But I can find no evidence of this, current expiry is showing as 10 Oct 2007 so if it expired? then its some coincidence that the same guy picked up this as well, the alternative could be maybe he bought it from them?

You decide... but it has one huge question mark over it for me

Remember this the email address administration contact CONTROLS the domain.

Buyer beware unless you get sedo to give you rock solid confirmation of ownership

Cheers all

Scoobs the domain detective ! lol - not really I just would hate anyone to get ripped off if the deal stacked up wrongly and the domain could be lost again

All info can be verified via domaintools if you have a paid account and archive.org

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
A well researched post Scooby.

I have been following this domain on Sedo and like you, found it unbelievable that there is no mention of the premium renewal price which is substantial.

Also intriguing for such a name was that the Reserve was met by $310 (the 2nd bid) which was when it first came to my attention.

renewal fees that are based on how many people would want a particular domain are another form of legalised rubbery, so the first steal is from the registry.

maybe the company realised that and wants to get rid of it.

If you have a doubt why don`t you ring SEDO about this?

Excellent post Scooby.

Although we all know the rational behind premium pricing,If it is true that the bidders don't know of the premium renewal fee, then this kind of thing only fans the flames for those .tv doubters and haters.
The more people that are open and upfront about their .TV renewal fees.the sooner .TV will become accepted by the masses :imho: .

I have to admit that I have been watching this both before and since my posting...

http://www.sedo.co.uk/auction/auction_history.php?language=e&auction_id=11136&tracked=&partnerid

Not totally sure of the timeline when you check cause I am in the UK ... and the times listed do not tally here it seems? but despite one bid after I posted it has gone hellish quiet there 7 bidders in .. and furious activity before .. Just the one bid since... I wonder why it stalled ?..

Will it all kick off and the price ramp prior to close?? (don't forget to factor in the annual renewal costs for the acquistion - to be fair I was surprised .. it was JUST that and sad to say would I stand that cost and was it fair- mmmm ? yes movies is 25k! and in the uk we say FILMS ) - not long to find out .. the time is ticking

I am sad to say that if it stacked up I would have dug very deep... I so wanted this how much ? very much ! why else would I have spent the time finding out what I did! it looked a great name, surely is a great name !!! am I nervous - VERY would I risk it NO I wish that I had the courage .. IT feels and seems vunerable to me from what I researched.

Who will buy films.tv? and if they do .. will that investment be sound ?

Discuss............. please do

Im not sure how long this guy has registered this name for, but If he has had it ever since it was created that would be over $23k in fees for this name. If it sells for $1150 that would be a great way to lose some money. If you can buy this name for the current price, even with a renewal of one year you may be able to make a profit on it.

I promise you all I am not the buyer .. especially if I had bidder 13 assigned to me!!! what with being midly superstitious !! that more than any warning would have sent me running ! LOL

Winner bidder number 13 .. ( unlucky for some !) - So its said

Whoever bought this must be mad... to see that it was not a scam .. one that I have provided significant information to indicate that it merits the caution that I issued ... so if you are here .. nice steal .. I do think its cheap at that .. but buyer beware ...

Warning to us all for aftermarket transactions .. do your due dilligence !

Watch this space .. someone no doubt will be reeling after payment & transfer .. could be a double whammy .. did not know about the premium costs and the true provence of the name ...

Nuff said ...

If it is someone here ... well .. don't say that you were not alerted before the event ...

WOW Basically this name sold for $12k including renewal! That is great news! I am pretty suprised it went that high, but then again this is the begining of what we have been waiting for.

Best of luck every one!

All this talk of premium names, got me rewinding the tape .. over some old threads ..

Did this sale complete? Not seen it reported yet .. via dnjounal etc unless I missed it ...and no update yet on the who is info ..

http://whois.domaintools.com/films.tv

Anyone have any further info?

If I was wrong in bantering suspicions around.. apologies ...

If it was/is legit .. then even despite the renewal price that was omitted from the auction details ( naughty on behalf of the lister ).. If its happened then it would have been a great after market sale to report!

Did you bid .. did you buy? come on fess up .. IT IS A GREAT NAME ...

Maybe nothing is going to happen on this ..

SO ..

If its for a drop in a few months as the sale does not go through ... then as its an enom regged name .. lets see what they re price that beauty at !!! lol

Has not shown on SEDO sales list so it may not be paid for yet or buyer backed out of the sale if he did not know about premium renewal.

Cheers equity ..

I was just curious thats all ..

It been a few weeks now .. I would have thought that it would have completed by now ...

All this talk of premiums sprang it to mind again so I went to check ...

Maybe its just not paid up fully and completed yet?

lets see what happens .. unless anyone can fess up with some insider info
