You know the drill if you are using MS Windows, you are in the middle of something and you get the dreaded "this program is not responding........... has encountered an error........ needs to shut down.........."

We have all been there before lol.

My question is:
Has anyone ever submited an error report and got a response?

I am sure Microsoft have people on hand "Oh no Joe Bloggs' WinAmp Player has shut down unexpectedly and he has submitted an error report, let's get onto it right away!"

Happens all the time to me, and I used to send the error report. Don't anymore though, because as far as I can tell it doesn't do anything.

if I wanted to turn them off... how would I do that ??

and... would it be just for specific software error messages, or would that disable ALL error messages for anything related to my computer ??

How do you expect them to respond? Do a whois on your ip contact your isp and then ask for your phone number and tell you they received your error report?...

For those that think this sends them information you don't want them to have, think of this: They run your OS anyway. Microsoft, if you use Windows, could theoretically get any info they wanted, so long as you are connected to the internet and don't have other software alerting you to every IP# you connect to. The only other way around this would be if you understood the code to, and decompiled, Windows OS itself and rewrote it (assuming such code was actually there :p) This would be the case, if MS actually gave a grap about your x-rated pics or letters. They have bigger targets in mind These "error reports" do exactly what they say. They send all that "garbage" you see if you click to see the "details" of the error. Those codes just tell them what error caused it, and what was happening (most of the time) at the time of the error. They have whole rooms full of coders sitting at mega-servers all day doing nothing but crunching numbers to see why certain errors occur at xx-times for xx-reasons. The idea is to help them fix it in patches or in next OS versions. Microsoft doesn't lie about this, or collect anything extra from it. That is in Microsoft's defense. To their discredit, however, this system seldom leads to many solutions for the average user's problems. To many of these errors are from non-MS software, and MS doesn't spend the time trying to fix the OS to resolve such issues, sadly.

Help to user actually experiencing the particular error = F-
