Hi, I recieved an opportunity to purchase a domain from the forementioned site. Probably because I own the exact domain in "another" ext. It seems the domain that I was offered is "pending delete" so I cant check all the info I would like to. Has anyone had any experience with them and can they be trusted? I have never been offered a domain via email that included a creditcard form?

Thanks

-Ian

Hi,

I have not bought from them, but they did contact me offering me a domain ... The same name as I had just got through a back order auction, but in another ext.

You should never send any credit card information via e-mail so don't use that form .... Unless you fax it through if you are going to deal with them .. Or use their on-line payment, not sure how secure that is though.

Good luck if you do decide to buy and let us know how it goes.

All the best.

Richard

If you are a member of DNF check what I have to say about this company:

Anyway, here is my original post:
I am the registrant of corps-diplomatique.net. Seeing that corps-diplomatique.com was due to expire I tried to catch the name as it dropped.
Unfortunately someone beat me to it.

Then I receive this spam:
(E-mail from whois of course)

I decided to ignore this since I don't want to encourage spam and I don't want to spend more than reg fee for that domain anyway.
I kept monitoring the domain status and tonight - bingo - they cancelled the name. Now it's mine

It's not the first time this scenario happens. Proof once again that some people are abusing the registrar cancel/refund policy. They catch expired names, test them for traffic and then make up their mind whether to keep or cancel.
So if you are trying to catch a dropping name but get beat by a drop registrar keep monitoring the name for at least a week. Sometimes names are abandoned and you might still recover them.

BTW the name is still offered for sale on their site :-P

Thanks for the reply DomainSage,

I'll be pretty happy if all goes well and give an update on the transaction. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks

Hey you're welcome...
It looks like this company specializes in regging the .com names for which others exts are registered then they catch names and contact the .net/.org registrants.
Dubious tactics here, at least they are not too expensive ;)

I can say with certainty that they are a shady operation. What they do is contact new owners of domains in the net/org/info/etc. extensions and offer to sell them the dot com version. I assume this is an automated process because I get about 2-3 of these offers a week. They do not own the domains they are selling. I think their plan is to register domains that people agree to buy - and then refund any payments if the domains are not available.

Let me say this again: They do not own the domains they are selling. They have even tried to sell one of my domains to someone else. Yes, someone acquired the .NET of a certain domain, and they emailed this individual to offer them the .COM version. The person did a whois on the domain, and found my email. He sent me an angry letter asking why I did not transfer the domain to his possession after he paid WebNameSolution for it. I explained to him that I was the owner of the domain, and that I never listed it for sale. Having seen WebNameSolution in action before, I told him how they operate and advised him to file a paypal dispute to retrieve his money as soon as possible.

I still have many of the emails sent to me from WebNameSolution in my inbox. None of the listed owners (per whois) of the domains that were offered for sale to me match and none match that of WebNameSolution. All domains are owned by individuals other than WebNameSolution. They used to charge $99.95 USD for each dot com last year. This year they bumped their price to $199.95. I assume since I still get these emails from them that their business model works. People must be paying them nearly $200 to acquire domains that are unregistered.

To clarify from my previous post, I will provide an example. I received this email on 12/22/05:

Subject: 1309.com for sale $99.95 USD by webnamesolution.com

Limited Time Offer...!!!
The domain name 1309.com is for sale exclusively by webnamesolution.com. Hurry and take advantage of this limited time special offer $99.95 USD.

This was a week after I acquired 1309.net. They scanned the registry to see I had just picked up this name, and offered to sell me the dot com version for $99.95. But of course, they do NOT own 1309.com. It has been registered since December 1999 to someone fron London.

Other domains they have offered me have been owned by individuals in China, Germany, and all across the globe. The whois info never matches. One time they even tried to sell me a domain registered to NamePros member Elequa. This domain he had owned for quite awhile before the email came. I would say that certainly proves what a shady organization they are.

Please note that it is impossible to purchase a name 'pending delete' from a company that does not own or control that domain.
All that you are able to do in practice is secure the services of a piece of software which will try to grab it for you (success not guaranteed).
