Have a safe and enjoyable holiday everyone. If your not working, enjoy the time off.

Take some time away from namepros and enjoy the time! We shall see if I can go a day without my blackberry lol and not checking the .tv thread.

Why couldn't it be an international holiday? :'( I could use a day off work tomorrow.

Anyway, enjoy your holidays to those in the US.

Well we will have to form a holiday for the international stars here lol. Let me think of this one. My brain is tried and been up all night. Or maybe some else can help me out lol.

I give you permission to call off work, do some grilling outside and enjoy the day. Just tell your boss Jeff says so lol.

Happy Memorial day to all NP members in the US.

Can i ask a question, What exactly is Memorial day?
I have of course heard it mentioned many times but never knew what it was celebrating.

Maybe i'm just a daft Scotsman who knows very little outside my country :bah:

It's a federal holiday which commemorates U.S. men and women who perished while in military service to their country.

It first honoured Union soldiers of the American Civil War and was later expanded to include casualties of any war or military action.

Great tribute to the bravery of these guys, if i am not mistaken, that is also something we are considering isn't it Michael?.
A Bank Holiday in respect to The Armed Forces.

I could start a whole new thread about how badly these guys get treated by The Government, but i wont

Thanks for the explanation.

One thing i really like about The US is the respect & pride shown to those in the military. In The UK we have lost that, our soldiers have even been told to stop wearing their uniforms when out in public in fear if verbal abuse & conflict. :-/

I won't get on my high horse & start moaning about all the things i dislike about the UK right now though as i could be here for hours!

Happy Memorial Day to you all.
It's a Bank Holiday weekend in the Uk (Scotland at least) So i will celebrate Memorial day with a few Jack Daniels while sitting outside in the sunshine (VERY strange to have sunshine in Glasgow so we got to take advantage!)

Well, there's Remembrance Day over here, but it's not a bank holiday. Some think indeed that it would be nice indeed if it was a bank holiday, as it is the case in other countries like the US...

I did some filming on Omaha Beach in Normandy and then visited the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer a couple of summers ago.

I doubt any human can visit that place without leaving with tears in their eyes.

Seeing the field of simple white crosses, and realising that nearly every one of them was a 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23 year old makes you realise the enormity of what the Americans did for Europe.

Forget the politics, the plain fact is that when Americans were called upon to help - they came - and many of them never returned.

Have a thoughtful Memorial Day holiday - and enjoy ALL the things those young men and women who lost their lives would love to be able to do.

Coincidentally - the UK always has a national holiday on the same day.

Oh, I'm a Brit (sorry Englishman StoneRoses and Scotsman McKennaRonnie) and even though my grandad joked about the Americans ALWAYS being late for wars - even he acknowledged the contribution they made to the world.

I've just uploaded the short film we did on Omaha Beach if anyone is interested. I was answering the question 'What did the 'D' in D-Day actually stand for?

It's available at...

Thank you for reminding us of these very important things, and thank you for sharing this short film with us.

Happy memorial day to all and keep the spirit of freedom alive within and outside of us so those that made the ultimate sacrifice to protect freedom and its concepts world-wide will always be remembered and would not have perished in vain.
