I was there about six weeks ago and it was cooler than cool - it was freezing!

The city centre (center) is extremely urbane and genuinely quite 'hip'. One of the biggest attractions, however, is an old warehouse building that has the biggest miniature railway on the planet.

Yes, I went in - and stayed for about four hours (it was, I'm embarassed to say, quite brilliant).

If you have an idea that needs the people of Hamburg to be 'cool' then go with it - they are - and a whole lot better dressed than most English-speaking countries.

In the UK we have the impression of Hamburg being 'cool'
I would imagine our impression has a whole lot to do with the Beatles getting their break there and many of the Rock legends talk about great times in Hamburg during the 60's (i'm not sure why they all went to Hamburg but for some reason it was THE place for rock acts)

Look at The Lonely Planet's guide to Hamburg, comes across as being very cool, artistic & cosmopolitan. Link Here

"Germany's second-biggest city is no also-ran, but a thriving up-and-comer.

Squeezed between scenic lakes and huge container ships on the busy Elbe river, Germany's largest port has, so the locals say, much in common with Venice and Amsterdam. Its dynamism, multiculturalism and hedonistic red-light district, the Reeperbahn, originate from its colourful maritime past."

Why do you ask Smash??
You have got me wondering.... :hehe:

I have never been there but been to a few different places in Germany and found them rather bleak, dreary though maybe some of that is to do with preconceptions we have about Germany & German people (in UK at least we tend to still think of Germany = Nazi party or the World War's)

For some reason Hamburg gets treated more like Paris or Amsterdam anytime you read and press comments about it, seems to have a far more trendy, cosmopolitan & multi cultural image that the rest of Germany.

i bought a domain with it- but you know how some geos are geos, but there just not, you know, cool i guess. like you say, oh, thats just blahblah.

doesnt always make it very desirable. i only dabble in geos, and i never will get the pure name, but i saw HamburgTelevision.com and HamburgChannel.com was avail so i took it. these are getting harder to grab too.

i took out my cities list last night and was able to get the hamburg, and FrankfurtTelevision.com and LiverpoolTelevision.com. the tv.coms and .tvs are gone.
i just dont know much about these places and didnt know if they were dorky regges :guilty:

I like it Smash, all the Geo .tv's & tv.com's are VERY hard to get so you done well. I especially like LiverpoolTelevision.com as Liverpool is a great, vibrant city with excellent sport, tourism & culture plus it is the Beatles home :)

Keep in mind in German it self (channel) is (kanal) and television is (fernsehen) ..

And sometimes German cities are pronounced and spelled different from the English version..

Munich and Cologne and two examples..

As per answers.com
Hamburg, Population: 1,730,000.
Hamburg today is an elegant, modern city and a cultural center, widely known for its opera, theaters, magazine and book-publishing houses, radio and television broadcasting centers, and film studios. At its center are two lakes, the Binnenalster (Inner Alster) and the Aussenalster (Outer Alster). The St. Pauli district, with its well-known street, the Reeperbahn, includes numerous places of entertainment. Hamburg is the seat of a university (founded 1919), several museums, and medical and technical institutes. There are extensive zoological and botanical gardens. Noteworthy buildings include the baroque St. Michael's Church (1750–62), rebuilt (1907–12) after a fire; the Church of St. Jacobi (begun in the 14th cent.); and the Renaissance-style city hall (1886–97). Felix Mendelssohn and Johannes Brahms were born in the city.
Sounds pretty cool to me!
