One of my names, PinotGrigiot.us, was recently accepted by GreatDomains.com after having several names denied. I had a small thread going about this before, but I'd like to start a larger thread where everyone can post which names they've submitted to Great Domains and the outcome. This may help us get a better understanding of how they select names.

I'll update this list as people post their names.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
GoDaddyGoDaddy
CanvasTarp.com <--- rejected.

Jeeese, and I have maybe 15 potential buyers lined up ( and I mentioned this to them ) . Guess I will place it on eBay and see who wants to bid it up. Wanted to place it on GD, though, because, IMO, I will get more money out of them, in the end.

Ah, well, I'll place a high reserve on it.

Long reply time from GD

Has any one had greatdomains not reply for a week?
I hope it means my name was "kicked up" for further review.
Any opinions on if this is a good sign? Greatdomains has always replied in 3 or 4 days at most. I'm on day 7.....
Thank you

not mean to be party pooper but usually SR (acceptance) and standard rejection emails are sent within minutes of each other...

If you submitted more than one name on a particular day, you only get back one rejection letter. While the rejection only states domain X was rejected, it also applies to any other domains you submitted on the same day.

Fonzie, I know the GD email states that, but I am not sure they even follow that. I also have two that have not come back in over a week like Namenut so I emailed GD and a rep replied that a decision has not been made yet which makes me think along the lines of Namenut that it has been escalated. Maybe they need more than a few yes remarks for high dollar amounts to list.

You may be right. That is interesting they take so long with some decisions, yet arbitrarily rule out others. I have lost quite a bit of respect for GD after they rejected my vip.cc within just a few minutes of me sending them the submittion. (GD had vip.us listed for 50k!)

It is really sad to hear that Vip.cc was rejected. Awesome domain in my opinion worthy of notice. .cc are being sold and that is a good one!

Fonzie,

I can not, and do not emply that I can, speak for GreatDomains. But, it may not be the name's value in their opinion that got it (vip.cc) turned down. Part of the contract for names listed states that the seller must understand that GD sells other names (duh :yell: ), and that names may compete against one another via their listings; hence, you can not hold GD responsible for say you owning the .net of a name and another seller owning the .com and it selling but yours not (or for GD pushing the sale of the .com, yet not the .net to inquiring buyers or via any means GD list or advertises domains it has listed). An example of this is a name I own. I have the .tv listed, and someone else has the .net. I tried to list another extension of the valuable word, but it was rejected. I thought it alot more valuable than the .tv, so I was curious. I normally, knowing GD is funny about things like this, just leave the matter closed. But, in that case I emailed them. I didn't expect a reply, but since I made the subject-line to the attention of a GD rep handling some of my other names, I actually got an answer. Their reply was that with the .net and .tv listed, another of the same term (was minus a "s" at the end) would be just too much of one term listed. Guess they feared the higher valued .net would loose out (and they loose a higher commission) if it had to compete against two lower TLD's. Your vip.cc has super value to the right user (and I don't think any reasonable NPer could disagree with any reason), but maybe GD's rep who happened to look at it that day saw vip.us already listed, and didn't want its owner to have direct competition in the matter. Maybe, just try again later. As many GD'ers have posted before, sometimes GD will accept a name that they have turned down previously.

Just looking at it IMO and from my perspective/take on the matter. :)

Very well thought out explanation Maximum! You took the selection process to a whole new level. Rep added!

I appreciate your words and you may be exactly right. I am doing a little bit of marketing for my domain right now hoping to find an end user. If no one bits, I will resubmit to GD maybe in another 6 months. Thanks for the insights.

Another way to look at it is to try and use GD's initials, as we commonly do with 2-4 character domains to make them more valuable.

GreatDomains :

Grateful Dead: Only a stoned/high & dead member of the group (like Jerry Garcia) would understand their rational.

Good Day: Sometimes they (GreatDomains) has their good days, and sometimes they have their bad. Same thing about our days when submitting to them.

Gospel Doctrine: How can we follow and understand the all-powerful gospel of GreatDomains, when they do not have the doctorine/holy-book of selecting names to list written down?

Graduate Degree: Maybe solution is a graduate degree in domain speculation. Anyone know of an Ivy League school offering this degree?

Great Divide: Some names seem to get approved that can't even cross the road, yet others that should be on the top of the GreatDomain's mountain can't seem to get acrosss the Great Divide.

Group Discussions: What all their decisions, and the somewhat oddness of them, lead to in places like NamePros. Speculation.

Giant Drop: (1) The name we all hope to catch on the drop, that is worth a $xxx, xxx GreatDomains listing, that luckily we don't have to bid $x,xxx or $xx,xxx for on the drop services. (2) What we hope GreatDomains will do to us one day...Give us the "BIG DROP"..Drop off the huge check!

I figured most of these would get rejected but tried it anyway

rejected:
trafficreports.tv :) $np coming
chatter.cc
planets.cc
facespace.org
myface.us
viphq.org
viphq.net
cattle.cc
bountytournament.com

One thing I am wondering ... do they auto reject if you put in a too high valuation from their web form?

Anyhow, nice thread.

Good question Timmaay, as far as I know it does not matter because they suggest a price anyway which can be way different than what you put down. However, I am not for sure on this. The names I have had accepted my suggested was always much higher than want they wanted to list at.

I'm sure they do, If someone is asking or thinks their domains are worth a ridiculious amount they gotta be thinking 'why bother?...next'

Thanks! Did you mean you would watch TrafficReport.tv or TrafficReportS.tv, 'cause if you meant the plural, I think I should go grab it before someone else does :)

-J

I would watch the one (channel) with better features, theme or style of my choice.
In my work, traffic, can play a huge role. In fact on one of my sites I have live city street cams so I can see the conditions on certain routes.
(I can also see my nephew walking to school hehehehehehe) :)
This is one of those sittuations that I would buy both if were to develop or for resell. In Your not going to build and structure your site/company to issue a single Traffic Report. So is the singular a good thing in this case or would the plural be better. My thinking is to have both. Even to resell you can offer both to the potential buyer to increase value. If you're developing then I would get both just to capture all the pure traffic. Even if you tell someone the name *30% of them will add the plural, another *8% will typo (skipped letter, double letter, simlars) any way.
A truely thought out venture would secure several names to support your primary name, site or company. Also typos should be considerred :imho:

IE
I'm working on an ipod project now and I bought the
.com, .net, .org, .info and .biz
This may seem like overkill but this will be a keeper and each extension will be used.

* I can't find source to foot note.* Should be considerred an opinion at this point
