GreatDomains.com - Please Post Accepted and Denied Names

One of my names, PinotGrigiot.us, was recently accepted by GreatDomains.com after having several names denied. I had a small thread going about this before, but I'd like to start a larger thread where everyone can post which names they've submitted to Great Domains and the outcome. This may help us get a better understanding of how they select names.

GD denied a couple that I thought were good, if a bit long:

At this point, I figured they wanted shorter names, so I tried:

FreeGifts.tv
Civics.tv
Forty.tv
Champs.tv

No go.

They specifically list .tv as one of the extensions they want the most. I'm honestly kinda surprised that none of those last four were accepted -- three pretty good one-worders and a strong two-worder.

Aaahhh, who needs 'em anyway.

Yep, and what they like is what none of us can quite figure out :hehe:

DO you have any control of the price?

That depends on two things:

1) How good (in their opinion) the name is, and the likelyhood of it selling in our lifetimes. The more valuable the name, the more leaway you have. Care to go "up above" their "suggested" asking-price ("reserve-price" they are more flexible on, generally)? Better be a good name

2) And, sadly, this is just as important it seems :td: : Sometimes, GD assigns a particular staffer to a particular name or seller (more toward seller, if they have multiple names or very valuable ones - not that either of these applies to me....lol). Who at GD you are lucky (or unlucky, as the case may be ) to have assigned to be your representative for that particular domain, can make the diffrence. Recently I had two domains, assigned to two diffrent folks there at GD, and I tried raising the "reserve" price (note here, I wasn't asking to raise the "asking" price, just the reserve - so no potential buyer just assumed the normal 50%). One of them said "sure...send a request", and I ended-up with a reserve that was closer to 75% than 50%. The other domain (other GD staffer), simple got a very rude "No, we can not do that." (with no explaination or appology :td: ) . And, while I can't say that the luck of someone else reading the email (or directly sending it to the ATT:/attention of another) would not then help, I haven't had that luck. When I tried asking months later about that "turned down for a pay-raise" domain, that same blasted staffer emailed me back (rude again) with a basic "I have already answered this question." Maybe next time, regardless who has it, I'll email it to the attention of the one who gave me the raise, and hope that person can't be over-ridden or the other rude staffer will just be :zzz: the job that day

Odds are very good, they will alter the reserve above the standard 50% (they do, automatically, on domains they think worth the bigger figures, anyway). The asking-price - now that is sometimes just playing the odds. BUT, it never hurts for you to try. Sometimes (rare, but does happen), you can even get the asking-price raised. After all, they accepted the name in the first place, they make nothing off it if you sell it somewhere else instead, and the more you sell it for the more they make :hehe:

Oh jeeze :P

I'm glad to see how far this thread has come. I wonder if now it would be good to gather all of the names into an excel file and look for patterns. If only there were 25 hours in a day...

Just had www.NewsReports.tv accepted by GreatDomains.com Couldn't even get an appraisal here at Namepros (0-29) . Not my best ever, it will only list for $10,000. But, just goes to show you nothing is written in stone, and sometimes you have to go with your own gut feeling! Ha, I'm happy!! Good luck to all.
