Today I have been lucky enough to have negotiated my first sale of a domain name.

I'm really excited, not just because I'm making some profit (at last!) but because the whole process has been both interesting and educational!

Sale is for a 4 letter dot net that cost me reg fee approx 2 months ago..... agreed sale price is just over $700.

Also pleased because it's a private sale, so no sedo fees. I've just set up an Escrow account and the buyer is paying fees!

My domain is registered with Godaddy, is the process of transfering the domain through Escrow easy and do Godaddy charge me anything for pushing?

Congrats Chris! I used escrow for the first time earlier this month and it was easy - they really do keep you informed and handle the entire process very well. I am sure you will have no problems.

Godaddy don't charge anything to push a domain (assuming you are pushing it to another godaddy account) - if its going to another registrar it is a different process anyway.

First of all, congratulations to you Chris and it’s really great to see you so excited.

I don’t know much about escrow accounts so I’m not going to be of much help there, however, I too sold my first domain (actually my second but I can’t count the first because it was on ebay with no reserve and sold for only $25) that finally completed transaction yesterday through s—o. It was a domain that I registered less than 60 days ago so the new owner had to set up an account with godaddy to receive my push to his account and no there is no charge with any registrars I have dealt with for pushing, actually I don’t believe any of them charge a fee even if you are transferring out to a gaining registrar. The only fees are usually those of the person receiving a transfer but only if it is to a gaining registrar. Again congrats and good luck with your future sales!

Thanks to everyone for the congrats and advice.
I'll post the domain name on here once the sale is completed.

I'm assuming that the way it works is that ......
1) the buyer pays the money to escrow
2) Escrow inform me they have received payment
3) I transfer the domain to buyer
4) Escrow send me payment

Is that the way it works? Also, do I have to do anything else i.e changing Whois info etc?

Yes this is the way it works. For more help im sure you will find a FAQ section on the escrow site. By the way what escrow service are you using ? I wouldn't use anything else but escrow.com

I'm using Escrow.com. Opened an account with them today. I wouldn't really trust anything else.

Domain transfered and awaiting payment from Escrow.
The whole process was so much easier than I expected!
