Google to Compete with eBay?

Google watchers were agog when a new service from the world's biggest search engine briefly made an appearance and then disappeared again. The service called Google Base appeared to be a classified advertising service that would allow users to post their items for sale.

I would like to see it happen,But yahoo's auctions have been a disappointment,i don't think google can do any better.

Google is also creating an online bank, kinda like Paypal....however somehow they do not intend to compete with Paypal.

oy, there going to get stopped some where in some competition, and then there going to get laughed at so i dony see why they keep putting up more stuff, i meen dont they got enough money, there just greedy, IMO google wont be able to compete with ebay, ebay is just to good.google is goin g to get stopped somewhere, and i think this is it, a company just cant poissible have everything.

Google's mission is to make information more universally accessible and useful... they're still within their mission statement

I think Google is getting a little to aggresive at this point. I respected their intial moves to expand into different online arenas but at this point I think they're getting a little too greedy in what they are doing and it's going to come back to bite them sooner or later.

this is what i tried to explain but no one agreed with me, IMO there getting way to greedy for money, i meen one prduct comes out and already they are starting on another project less than two weeks later

It would be very hard for Google's service to be better than Ebay, IMO. :blink:

maybe not... i think that google can be so much better. Google talk was a failure, but they should be able to do so much better. The only problem would be that they are too late for all this. MSN messenger and Yahoo messenger have been out too long, and are too used for google to really provide an "amazing" alternative, and I think this will take the same route. Ebay is too widely used for people to changed, and google is entering too late into the business. I think they have the capabilities to take over the market, yet they will not exploit that. They rely too much on their popularity, and don't marklet it enough.

I really doubt that it's something they will do. The online auction PPC brings in tens of millions every year for them.

yeah, but google is getting greedier every day, so i wouldnt be surprised if they did try to start an online auction

Google isn't greedy - hence the fact that ... um... hmm... HOW many of their services do I have to pay for? I think just ONE, and that's Google Answers.... (Woopie $4 or somethin - yeah Google's REALLY greedy)
