I didn't read anything nefarious from what they are doing. You need to use your imagination to read that into what they are trying to achieve. I salute their attempts at cleaning up the WWW. Whilst at the same time keeping an open mind as to their intentions.

Sounds like this strengthens the URL, not even getting close to "killing it off". How does making a legitimate URL so that it's not forge-able mean they're killing off the URL? They may well be killing off the complete crap that people register and use illegitimately. Surely that's a good thing?
