Free Google sitemap generator

AllWebMenus Pro (by www.likno.com) creates sitemap.xml files according to the new Google specifications

You can do that even with the evaluation version.

Anybody knows a sitemap generator which can handle 5,000 urls from a site urls list?

Yes. A windows program that I used to create my sitemap. It's called EndSheet ( try searching with google and you'll find it ). You will need to have Microsoft .NET Framework installed on your computer tho.
