Google replacement for PayPal?

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - Online search-engine leader Google Inc. is preparing to introduce an electronic payment system later this year in a move that would pose a financial threat to one of its biggest advertisers, Internet auctioneer eBay Inc.

I dont think eBay has the cash to buy google, but I'd bet a good hunk of my money, that in the future Google buys eBay, or atleast makes a partnership. Think of the limitless possibilities.

Actually, Google earlier this year surpassed eBay as the Internet's most valuable stock.

For all the issues with Paypal, and Google's reputation for rolling out services with arguably superior quality and technology, this should be fun to watch.

Ya, paypal will have to lower their transaction fees, and that's good for us. But, I have this feeling that google will be better, because whenever they come out with something, there is always something unique and special that no one else does. So we'll see

If this news was coming from most other companies, I would probably not consider it a legitimate threat to PayPal, but Google has the resources and recognition to compete with anybody, so this should be taken very seriously by them. Wow, this seems like a big & bold move by Google.

in all honesty why would they bother, they get fees for a large amount of the transactions anyway and they don't have the hassle of running the online service.

Papal and ebay fees for most of us guys are way to high. But I think now that Google is bringing out
Google Wallet we will see a lot of changes in the industry in the coming months...

All publishers that use Google Adsence on their websites will now beable to be paid through the GoogleWallet
service.

I have also heard that the Goolge Wallet service will be available to all the people that live in Africa and other countries that
will result in another 100 Million customers that may want your product or service.

I really think this you change the way we all accept payments online...

All can be paid for via Google Wallet maybe?

i think if google do hosting there control panel wil rock, better that Cpanel or anything out there, look at there email, hotmail shit themselves, and they had a reason, now its paypals turn, will we see google attack MS next? (Os? Browser? Office Suite?)

I hope google doesn't release thier service in nigeria lol more nigerian scam.
But with any new service scammer would also find a way to scam people so it doesn't matter whether is nigeria or U.S.
Ebay does have a upper hand right now since they have tight integration paypal into ebay. They won't give google that much tight integration and in some cases won't even give insurance etc for items you buy and sell on ebay using paypal. Unless google come out with their own online auction system

There are certain ways to get around the tight integration Paypal and Ebay have. Though it will be especially difficult now that Paypal and Ebay are owned by the same corporation. I remember back when Ebay was trying to push it's own fully integrated payment system, billpoint, on Ebay users. Users just kept on using Paypal.

I think the $5 refer a friend and free transactions were what launched Paypal so fast and gave it such a strong hold on the market before anyone else had a chance.

If Google were to offer free or really low cost money transfers from account to account (eg. transactions not involving credit cards, simple account to account transfers) that would get them off to a good start. Paypal charges the same 3% fees for an account to account transfer it does for a credit card to account transfer even though their expense is dramatically lower.

Exactly sellinbiz, I hope Google will have less fee for CC and free fee for operation without CC... but we can wait a lot of innovative and new features from Google like always...

Here's what would scare me - if I was PayPal.

I took a casual poll amongst a small gathering of family and friends today. All of us are regular PayPal users, with long history and many positive stories to tell. We like PayPal. We use PayPal. We don't have any horror stories to tell about them.

Yet 7 of 9 people said they would be eager to try Google's payment service right from the start, and not hesitate to switch to them if they liked it. The confidence in their way of doing things is very strong. It's seems the general feeling was....

If it has a Google tag on it, it must be good.
