Starting today Google is moving all its blogs to a new domain to help people recognize when they’re reading an official blog from Google. The new domain name is GoogleBlog.com.

These changes will roll out to all of Google’s blogs over time. The Google Webmaster Central blog is one of the first to move to the new domain name and now has a new address: webmasters.googleblog.com.

Maybe they did it for SEO reasons.

Why not Blog.xyz? ;)

I think their move to GoogleBlog.com is more of an indication that they will eventually move to Google.blog or G.blog.

Keep in mind that Google will be selling more domain extensions in the future so they will ultimately end up promoting them.

I did not check yet but they might also own the extension .blog.

P.S. G.xyz is reserved for Google. I am not sure if it will be a consumer facing site though but I hope it will be.

Why not Blog.xyz? ;)

Actually, your question makes sense. As silly as it sounds since it would be a gigantic game changer, Blog.xyz is available for purchase for less than $3,000.00 USD a year.

A lot of the domain names are marked as available but get cancelled once you try to register.

I was only joking ;)

Blog.xyz would be a better domain than their current Blogger.com domain.

The XYZ extension would indicate that it was a company by Alphabet, and each domain that is registered under .XYZ would further promote their Alphabet company.

domainerfella.google.blog looks more professional than domainerfella.googleblog.xyz:)
I was being sarcastic.

That's a 'step by step - transform' I think.

I am sure they will register google.blog (when this TLD becomes available) as next step.
Ok, that was not difficult to guess and yes, of course as brand protection - but I think that's not the only reason.

I think they are 'collecting' their 'businesses fields in form of domains' to use them at least as forwarding domains for their specific domains in future.
