I've seen it once or twice, but never repeatedly. Certainly never that I couldn't just try again and get a result.

You might try forcing your ISP to give you a new IP. eg. For my Comcast connection I can request a new IP via the modem. That might help. Perhaps there is someone on your IP block spamming Google search?

I've had it happen several times before. Too many searches. Wait it out for about an hour and try again. If you can read the capcha, I think it will let you back on.

I actually run a script that causes this once a day. Bit of a hassle (esp for my 40 colleagues who all get it too!) but you can continue by completing the captcha

The captcha restriction tends to lift after a few hours for me.

You'd best check you don't have malware though. If you've been running scripts to gather data (as many of us domainers do) that could be it too.

It was the first time I'd EVER seen this message. It went away after several hours.

I've found at least two situations that will cause google to give you this error.

1st is if you automatically query google for information .

2nd is if you are searching for information about server vulnerabilities. Google blocks searches that would identify websites that are vulnerable to known exploits.

I'm sure there may be more triggers as lately google seems out to protect us from ourselves. I wouldn't be surprised to find in the future google blocking searches like "how to grow weed" or "how to hack an xbox."
