Just some breaking news about Google. In the last 15 minutes Google have released a statement stating they are no longer planning on censoring search results any more.

The censorship was a major agreement with the Chinese government a few years ago to allow them to operate in the country.

However Google has suffered an attack that they beleive was aimed at accessing Gmail account of human rights activists within China cwhich seem s to have prompted their decision to no longer censor,

They shouldn't have agreed to the censorship to start with.

Now that they realise that there is not enough profit in being so far behind the leading search sites, they've decided to take the moral high road.

Their true colours are already visible, this is more a commercial decision in my opinion.

100% agreed

To be honest things do not truly ad up. I am sure we are not being told everything.

I agree that they've realised that there's not much money to be made and now think that they can score some PR points with this move.

Chinese feel strong enough to take on the foreign interests in the country. Where are the news here? This was expected all along. No foreign business will push around Chinese within China borders, one can only admire such local government stand.
They may have different views on what they can see online and what they can not- this is their business. In Rome do as The Romans do.

Kind of funny you have joined up just now, made 4 posts and are running a biased Chinese Government line?

I see right through you.

Ah... Local Nostradamus... I see... Listen, mister can-see-through-walls, we should not suppress discussion of issues. This would not be business wise. If you want to discuss on the basis of merit, we will. If you want to see through people and judge them on the basis of your life experience- be my guest, but I am not going to be your opponent.

Look, if you believe what google tells you, you may. Just don't try to shut down discussion of issues because this may lead others to take decisions based on the wrong information. Discuss issues, not personalities or politics in other words. This is always a good thing to consider all sides. And BTW, all governments huck into things. This is what they do best.

Yes it is true that all government's security and intelligence departments employ hacking tactics.
The difference here is that it involves persecution of individuals.
My own opinion is that g00gle will take the road which is most profitable for them, whilst making it appear to the world that they are doing the right thing.

I underlined it, because I'm still trying to understand how you can push a pro-chinese viewpoint on this when the chinese government is the one censoring the web. Tell me how censorship doesn't shut down discussion of issues....
