I found a name with about 1,000 global monthly search volume (exact) but with a lousy CPC value (0.05). However it has advertisers. I've seen other names with identical statz registered. Should I go ahead and register the name in spite of it's CPC value? I'm getting desperate here.
Hello Domainer700,
First welcome to namepros I see your a relatively new member here. I am going to try to answer some of the questions you have asked with answers that work for me.
Question 1: Should I register a name with 1k Search Volume?
My thoughts: This is truly a tough question not knowing name/extension etc. My method is a simplistic approach..Does the term have high competition meaning are the pages currently ranked on page 1 of high PR, Backlinks, Etc? Also something to consider is 1k exact volume is divided up many ways between paid ads, and position on the first page....
If memory serves me correct positions get something like this :
Rank 1: gets like 30% of clicks
Rank 2: gets like 12% of clicks
And so on.....those are not exact numbers just my conclusions and findings...So you would need to divide your 1k/mth by the percent and then weigh whether the service/product your site will sell would make a profit.
Question 2: Low CPC Value
My thoughts: I hardly ever use cpc value as a gauge on purchasing a domain name. I do however wonder with very low bids if this product/service is new and hasn't went mainstream yet. So if the product is older and has been around a while I expect there is no money to be made with a $0.05 CPC....so I'm shooting in the dark saying perhaps passing it up may be the best course of action.
Question 3: Other names with identical stats registered should I grab this one?
My thoughts: I feel this would be the wrong way of looking at a possible domain purchase. These "other" names may have more marketing potential then your name. Also keep in mind that many domains are purchased for speculation and just plain out resell.
Your last concern is I see you mention that your getting desperate. Why are you desperate? Purchased names with no luck? Desperation is not the mindset you need for domaining....
determination is what you need..your going to make mistakes we have all made them...but you keep reading up on forums asking questions and eventually a light will come on and you'll start making headway!
Hope I have addressed most of your concerns and once again this is just my thoughts not an industry standard by any means. I go the path less followed
Cheers
