Good cartoon animation software

Nobody has answered my previous question about image ready audio so im going to ask a more general question. I want to know about any animation software that can make simple cartoonish movies. Nothing fancy though like 3D modeling or face mapping or whatever. I just want to know about anything simple. I dont want anything involving flash though, its a bit compicated. There are probably other topics like this but any info on this would be helpful.

Ulead has several different programs, they may make one even better for animation.. they also offer 30 day trial on thier products.

If you know how to do it right Flash can be used to make cartoon-like images, although I don't know if that is exactly what you are looking for.

animated gif programmes?

I use Jasc animation shop, which allows you to import images into a timeline and apply some basic animation effects on them. I think that in order for it to be effective, you need to have good image sources, but the way I do it is start off with your picture in a graphics editor (I use paint shop pro), import it into the timeline, edit the first image you copied (so that it is slightly different, ie arm moves slightly) then copy this one in.

Obviously the success of this approach depends on the detail of the image you're animating and the time spent on changing each individual picture.

The FX it has are quite basic, but with a little care you can use some of them to good effect, such as fades etc...

I animated my avatar using this approach. Like it?

There may be some "free" animated gifs on the web that you can get and adapt to your liking.

Jasc animation shop is a great program for animation at its least, obviously... Animation Shop is also a great program which has different effects you can use to make an animation images over-layer the regular image you have.. might sound confusing, but it's a great program to have...

Have You Checked Out Toon Boom Studio? Not sure of the website address or how advanced it is but I've seen a lot of animated cartoons made with it.
