A brief desciption of how i get to know and eventually became a member of namepros.........

I first started out in affilate marketing and failed badly. Spent hundreds on it and never made a sales. Did a brief check on why i failed and here are a few points.
- Got attracted to b.s sales page claiming by working an hour a day i could earn 5k per month.
- didn't know affilate marketing started way back before i was even born! Like they say, you stand to lose when you enter the game too late.

So i took this as a paid 'lesson' and moved on with it. But not long after, i saw this E-book online talking about domain flipping (i didn't even know what domain flipping was! If you give me sex.com at that point of time, i would gladly give it away if anyone asked from me!). I don't know why i got attracted to it again because the sales page definitely seems legit and logical.

So as usual, i bought it, went according to the method, bought domains at 7.15 each from the expired list and sold them for 99 cents each. Sometimes higher at few bucks but mostly losses, at ebay. Now, my losses is around 300 bucks and i still have 30+ domains in my godaddy. Most probably, the 30 domains will fetch 30 bucks in total lol.

Of course i got abit frustrated and i searched google for domain tips (this time demanding a free one!) and here i'm at namepros.

To my dismay, i got to know that domaining is another old industry that dated back to 1980s but that's not all!

The worst part is alot np members commented on how expired domain lists are b.s because the chances of good domains passing through those aunctions are slim. You mean..... i've been wasting my time doing what the e-book reccomends? Downloading expired list at wsm domain, filter them using alou program and then paste them at moniker?

I've spent a good 2 weeks, almost 5-6 hours everyday since i bought that E-book domaining and although i keep losing money, i thought it was just the beginning. And i would eventually start making profit.

and now, whoever read until here, i really appreciate for your time. So how would you advice me?

My target is to earn 3k usd per month doing this but if i do not, i would quit domaining completely because i figured out that i could earn that same amount using the same amount of time working outside. Just that i really didn't like the feeling of working under someone.

- Do i just have to change my technique, instead of finding domains from expired list, i should go find domains in auction instead and then flip/invest them?

- is it true that at this point/stage of time where late players like me shouldn't expect earning a living in domaining because i joined too late? Maybe i should just take it as a hobby/ a little nice extra income?

- i'm just really really really really confused now that i dont know what my next step is.

where has it gone wrong?!?!?!

Expired domain lists can be useful, depending on what you register from them.

I have a blog in which I hand pick the best expired domains from a bigger list, thus giving you a better chance of choosing the right domain to register.

Yes, you have been wasting your time reading and listening to a stupid ebook. I'm extremely surprised that your slightly surprised of this.

Stop registering those long domains, and start registering short domains, since there is less risk.

Your not at all late to make money off domaining.

Just make better choices, and understand the risks.

I'm not going to tell you what to register and buy, instead I'm going to tell you what I register and buy.

I register LLLL.info and LLLL.net, I buy LLLL.com and NNNNN.com

Hope I helped you.

hi there. That certainly helps.

So you mean you only buy those domains mentioned? Just strictly those?

But aren't they more for long-term investment purpose because you can't get earn a profit with them without waiting?

No, I buy everything, but mostly those.

They are considered a long term investment, but can easily turn in to a short term investment if you find an end user.

If you want to make more money in the short term, perhaps you should expand your search. Expired lists are ok, but it's just one branch on the tree. Check sites like freshdrop.net for the names on TDNAM. You can find some nice aged domains there that are easily flippable. Don't expect to make oodles of cash doing this, but 100% profit is not unheard of. Most people would take 100% profit.

If you want to invest more long term (assuming you aren't rich enough to buy premium domains) then you can always register your own. There are growing pains with this method too, as we all have registered some bad names. Plus, it's not entirely easy to sell freshly registered names unless it's something new and real hot. But that's why I said long term. Check out the blog in my signature if you want some registering ideas that may help.

Hey Yapz,
Have you thought about working with unregistered domain names. Register them for the first time and resell them at sedo or another broker. If you have thought about doing this and have some capital left to invest, pm me as I have a partnership proposal that might interest you. I am not saying your $3000 a month expectations should necessarily be accomplished but we could definetly generate some acceptable amount of sideline cash.

I personally prefer buying name in the aftermarket (at forums or on snap/pool/tdnam) and then selling them a couple of months later at profit. You just have to know what to look for. I have overpaid on plenty, but I have also bought some great domains at super low prices. I think teh easiest niche to start in right now is the short domain niche. Just be careful not to jump on fads. Just because it is an LLLL.com doesn't mean it is worth lots of money. Read up on teh subject, and look around for deals. PM me and I can give you a lot of helpful information that I have learned... for free, not in an e-book

hey, welcome to namepros.
firstly, don't listen to one person, because it seems like you're already listening to people way too much!
the answer definitely won't come from someone saying "do abc" - then you do it, and you then earn your $3,000.
no one is going to tell you a one "recipe" for success. don't ever pay for information, it's probably a scam.
but namepros will tell you 10,000 smaller secrets. take your time to learn. read, read, read - especially in the newbie section.
finally - after learning about all the different philosophies, and why they work, why they don't - learn what your personality is like. think - what can i do better than most other people?
do you have an interest, personality, skill? developing, numbers, patience, spotting trends, doing charts, studying sales figures, writing content?
there are 1,000 different ways to make money in this industry, but you have to learn slowly which is the right one for you. become the expert at that.
even if you pick your home city/ state, or your industry, and focus on just spotting the best dropping or new names in that, you'll be set.
good luck!

$3000 a month? I don't believe that is possible unless you have capital to start with... unless you want to put your money in riskier fields
