GoDaddy Expiring Names

Are the statistics for for number of visitors and income that are displayed on godaddy expiring name auction accurate?

Web stats are a tough business. I know I'd prefer to look at the Compete and Alexa scores before getting too excited about any claims on traffic.

No they are not.
I usually check the following:
Domain Age
Number of backlinks
Yahoo Links
Google links
Alexa Rank
Compete rank

Things don't add up with GoDaddy Expiring Domains. Ex. Domain might be 1 year old with low Alexa rank and traffic with no backlinks or compete rank.

So you think they just hype the numbers up just to get people bidding on them?

They don't even tell what these numbers are supposed to represent and how they are computed. Obviously they do not appear to be valid daily UV.

I doubt very much that Alexa is all that accurate.

The tend to favor those who use their widget on their sites.

It took me two years and a lot of emailing back and forth before they would correct the erroneous info on Poets [dot] net.

I dont trust those GD stats either.

Another good thing to check is the wayback machine to see if there was a site up and what it was like.
