Is anyone else using GoDaddy domain backorders? I bought my first one yesterday to give them a try. At $18.95, the price is right if they can beat Snapnames once in awhile.

I joined their reseller program hoping to offer them at a discount on the forum, but they don't allow pricing for less than $18.95. I'll make another offer available to NP members in the ad forum.

Okay, I stumbled into an industry (backordering). 1) How do I tell how many services are going after the domain name when it becomes available and 2) how do I get estimates on what the domain name is worth?

That is the key to this game(industry), estimating the value of a domain before it drops. Placing it in the appraisal threads will only send the interest in a dropping name higher. So do the manual work and find out where there are backorders, snaps or bids placed. Then figure out how much the name is worth to you developed if you plan on developing it, traffic (use overture and google to guesstimate) , or wholesale for a quick profit.

There is never a set price for a domain, there is no Kelly's Blue Book for domains. A Domain is only worth what the highest buyer is willing to pay.

There's no way to know how many services will be going after a domain when it drops. If the name is any good at all, it's likely the major drop services are going to chase it (meaning pool, snapnames, namewinner, godaddy...between them that's around 20 registrars hunting a name).

And as nut mentioned, you'll have to figure out on your own what the name is worth to you before it drops. Don't bid more than you can afford either, because it's easy to get caught up in those auctions and overpay for names.
