I registered a domain name a couple of days ago which I decided was a waste of time and money. I had heard that you could get your money back from some registrars if you cancelled within 5 days, but Godaddy was not one of the ones mentioned. But I just emailed them and they said cancel it now and we will request a refund which I took to mean I will get the refund. So well done Godaddy.

GoDaddy has (almost) always offered a refund within 5 days of registration. Which is more than reasonable for a bag reg or even a mispell. Its ironic that you are having a pleasant experience with them when Circa is having such a terrible experience. Although Circa's experience is in relation to TDNAM. I believe GoDaddy has the potential to be a great company, they simply need to focus better attention on the Domainers side.

Just my thoughts,

Justin

This happened to me a few weeks back, reg'd a name and then noticed a mispell, called GD, got it canceled, and got my refund, no problems.

They focus on end users and IMO the newbie style of customers, this is their best customer category

Nice to hear that. I made typing errors before and was not knowing that money-back is there. Nice to know this. Thanks.

When they started TDNAM - they started to go after the Domainer. I think its time they revamped their system and brought it up to "code" so to speak. I think they have the resources, capability, and know how, they just lack the proper direction.

Got an email saying I've got to wait a few days for process to be carried out - so I'll keep you all posted. Glad to hear that some people have discovered something new :)

What's being discussed here is a rare exception to registrars' no refund rule if
you do it within the domain name's 120-hour window. Just don't expect them
to always accomodate you on such, especially if they have every reason to
believe you're "abusing" their system.

Note this especially applies to CNO. Other extensions might have other rules.

Money was refunded today - A star for Godaddy.

It's not a rare exception though quite a few registrars will allow you to cancel if you've made a mistake as long as you do it within 5 days. Some of them advertise the fact, others keep it a bit quieter.

Anyway I'm pleased - 'cause I made a mistake - but I am new to this game.

Any one know out of all the registars who charges a fee for the cancellations?

Last I checked Public Domain Registry (aka DirectI) does. $1, I think, not sure.

This is really nice to know for the future, as all of us have probably mis-spelled a reg or two.
They have been totally awesome in my dealings with them. When I accidently deleted one of my names, I contacted them and they put the name back into my account! I give them a Gold Star!

With GD, I think you only have to forfeit the ICANN fee. I must say when I canceled my misspell it was smooth.... good job GD !!!!
