GoDaddy Closeouts Auction

I have a question regarding the GoDaddy Closeout that I can't quite figure out. What happens to a domain when the close out ends?

It seems like after the auction ends it's relisted at a lower BIN price at GoDaddy until it's $5 then it disappears. After this I assume it would be available to be registered, but it seem like it becomes taken. I follow multiple domains it seems to be all the same. Where do these domains go if no one buys them?

Yes sorry you right. Close out is around $25, cheapest backorder is around the same.

Either buy it from closeout or wait till it drops.

Everyone uses coupons for auction and closeouts. If you can find one that works.

I have had issues with coupons as well, I *think* they limit you to one per 30 days

Plus the last closeout I bought I was doing the fastest finger drop to $11 so I don't want to futz with a coupon and risk getting beat out on a name, which has also happened. In that case I test the coupon with a dummy domain a few hours before, then have the coupon ready to c&p, but be ready to pay full price if it fails

I am guessing if you have their membership discount club you always get flat $8.29 and that applies to auction purchases as well?

Domain is not very good. I am just buying a bunch and donn't want to pay that extra 5-11 dollar godaddy closeout fee if I don't have to.

May I ask why you want to buy a domain you consider "not very good" ?

Well, I am just buying brandable. But nothing too special that you need to catch. 90% of the time I wait til it's $5 before I buy it but since no one buys them, I was thinking maybe I can just wait til it drops to reg it.

Age matters the most, If you wait and try to hand reg it , Age will be gone
It will be new domain

@Adam27 - I am a dork - the way I was tracking coupons is proly wrong so ignore my 30 day idea. I went back and looked at my purchase history and it seems the 30% coupons are ok more often, it was the super cheap $2, 1.99, 99 coupons that were restricted

@YaaDoo - Keep in mind there's a bunch more people who don't look at GD auctions who then WILL be looking at the daily expire lists, and those of us with software will now be competing for those names, in addition to the pro dropcatchers. I still caught a few nice pronounceable /brandable, so you'll have to judge if the Age factor and competition are worth the $5.

Also GD is asynchronous so hand regs will only be possible if no-one else wanted it

Why backorder when you can just buy it outright during closeout period. Usually the backorder cost more too it seems.

Or rather who would backorder when you can buy at closeout.

GD backorders are useless for pending detete names.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but I think the registrar (GD in this case), renew's the domain for one year in the hope they can profit from an auction, in which case the buyer would have to renew for an extra year, which is another way of making money for GD.

The ones that I have followed have been this way, they have been in redemption and pending delete then renewed by GD then entered into an auction with a BIN price.

I've been doing this for a number of years now and bought some good (not great) domains to resell.

It is an ICANN rule that domains get extended 1 year.

Speaking of GoDaddy domains guys. I just realized that you can get 5% Cashback on GoDaddy orders on everything including renewals with Swagbucks. I made a thread on Domain Discussions about it just now. It works for me even though I have GoDaddy DDC and I believe it should work in addition to using coupons as well though I haven't tried it yet.
