In the last few days over at Godaddy auctions I have seen something pretty strange going on. Not sure if this has been brought up already but I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this. I have been watching several auctions a few nnnnn.coms, a few one word dot coms and a few ccc.coms. Ive seen the price get up there a ways, a lot but nothing out of the ordinary and then for some reason the price goes back to starting level bid. One example would be 52265.com. The price made it up to about $800 or so with 7 days left, then last night it went back to the starting bid of $10, then made it up to about $400 through out the course of today and now its back to $22. Another name is c78.com. It made it up to about $4800 or so, went back to the $20 range, then up to $1800 or so and now its back to $276. All while the time left on the auction didnt reset back to normal auction length time. So if this same thing happens again right near the auction end and its back to a minimal bid are these owners going to have to give up the names at a big loss? Would like to hear anyones thoughts on this.

I agree with the zero tolerance policy. If a seller has more than 2 domains within a month with shill bids, then that seller should also be banned as well. Since the shill bidding clearly benefits the seller.

The problem there is, making people culpable for the actions of (putative) third parties opens up a whole new avenue by which people can abuse the system. See a guy you hate on NamePros with an auction on GoDaddy? Go pay some VAs to shill bid on his auctions until he gets banned. Super cheap, and super easy if GD (or any other venue) adopts a system which punishes sellers for the actions of bidders.

was 30k in the morning now 1k

Quite a bouncing ball to those 2 domains. MovieList and DobermanPinscher were up to over $25k and $30k a week ago... then down to about $400 and $25 for a day or two... then up over 25k and 30k again for a couple days... then down to about 1k each this morning... later today movielist was won for just under 6k, and it looks like dobermanpinscher was renewed today, just as the auction ended. Obviously the owners are messing with the system, to draw attention to their names and shill the bids etc.

What a mess; makes you want to insist that, every time you win an auction, GD does a complete investigation to make sure there was no shill bidding on your domain, even if you just paid a few hundred $$.

Well after I originally posted on this I ended up bidding on one of those names that got dropped back to $25, there was about 2 days left and I bided up to $375, got outbid each time so decided to stop at that point. The next day I go back and check and the bid is back down to $25 again however my bid of $375 still stood, meaning if it went for $375 or less then I was the winner, anything over it was whoever the next highest bidder was. The name ended up going to the next highest bid at $385.
