Greg Tomkins, an engineer at Google, is credited with coming up with the "infinity plus one" idea. "I was out in the yard when my kids ran up to me yelling at each other. My son said to my daughter, 'I hate you to infinity.' She replied, 'I hate you to infinity plus one.' And right then I knew I had the solution to competing with unlimited storage," said Tomkins.

He continued saying that his son's idea about putting "dragons and Pokémon" on the Gmail pages didn't go over as well with management.

I dont even used 2% of my Gmail account. But someone out there might have tons of email that will greatly benefit from this.

I have 2.8ish GB allowed on my normal Gmail account and 2GB on my Gmail for your domains account.
It's been a month since that article was published..

Edit:
i think unlimited is going abit overboard for email accounts, most people sending files to clients and such put them onto there personal servers/hosting accounts or free services like rapidshare, even if you are using the attach feature with such email companies you can always save them to your computer and also back them up on to a flashdrive or your server/hosting account, i guess we live in a lazy generation tho where everyone wants the least amount of crap to do and the best results.

well

i don't use even 1% of it, but then some one was asking about this a few days back. he was using about 70% of the space of gmail and was nearing the barrier perhaps. i hope this news will bring him some comfort!

Definitely fake:
Called "the world's greatest tech humour site" by The Register, BBspot creates entertainment for the geekier side of the world. BBspot produces a variety of features like fake news stories satirizing the tech and political worlds, the BBspot Mailbag which pokes fun at the Believers (people who believe our fake news) and much more. BBspot was started by Brian Briggs in April of 2000 as a hobby to bring some fun to the web, but grew to the point where Brian "quit his day job" and made the site his full-time occupation in January of 2003.

You are currently using 255 MB (8%) of your 2852 MB.

I use it as a backup for work too :)

Yahoo and hotmail cant even compair to gmail and I hate it when people try to do so.

Yahoo/Hotmail = Advert world...gmail = fast, simple...and oh...it works.

Tomkins also said that they would be using new RAID technologies which allow them to store copies of e-mail in parallel universes. This means that if their servers crash they will be able to recover your data from another universe where they haven't.
If that doesn't give away the joke then I don't know what the hell can.

I don`t think it`s big deal to get unlimited space. My dad is a buisness man uses that Yahoo! service witch you get 2 GB and does not even use 200 mbs. Space is worthless in my opinion...for the email box.

I check my Gmail about once a month to delete the old mail out as it's all forwarded from my Gmail account anyway.
