I never ask for other peoples opinions because im usually content and happy enough with my work, but 2 people in the live chat have noted that, as much as thy loved the overall look and feel, they didn't like it much (that didn't make any sense for me either)

Anyway, would appreciate constructive feedback

(yes i know the Home tag in the nav remains highlighted, i'll get round to it, recently re did the nav anyway.)

I can understand that people "like the overall look & feel while not liking it much"... It's a nicely designed site, but it's very drab. There's no life to it... it needs color and visual focus. That's just my opinion though... others may see it differently.

Thanks for the feedback Gene, greatly appreciated. If that's what they meant, i understand completely. Thing is I wanted to go real simple, but not to the extent of it being a drab* as you put it, in my opinion it's fine as is, still has the nifty 'somewhat' colorful calender to go up on the main page so yeah. If that's all you see amiss with the design, it not having all the whistles and frills some designers like to splash on there, i'm ok with that.

I am impressed by the quality of your work. Professional logo, professional top navigation (very catchy), actually everything is just great and simple, yet attractive. well done, my only comment will be "adding a favicon" to your site.

You made me laugh, there is a favicon, its so poorly done it can hardly be noticed, actually did it a month ago on my handheld while on a train in france, made a note to redo it. Thanks for reminding me.

Some very nice showcases of your existing work, hidden in something that immediately reminds me of a wordpress design.
The islandmix and elyse demo as well as some of your logos show what you're able to do, your own site doesn't do your skills any justice.
While the basic idea is definitely good, the "translation" of your vision could use a bit more "energy", "focus" and "driven" appearance. Use these keywords in your own design vision and see where you can apply them onto your site.
The Nav Bar is certainly interesting. I assume you arranged it this way to simply be different, because the way you're leading the user through your site appearance is not working in your favor. Links as a first tab, with the option for users to click away from your site onto someone else's site couldn't be in your best interest.
Your personal logo is actually not bad, could be a bit more emphasized as it transports who you are, displays your own creativity and is your very own vehicle of branding.
What i find a neat idea is the "I'm currently unavailable for hire" note on the right, i'd actually increase the size of it as well and maybe even tap into the "No Vacancy" sign appearance from the roadside motels. (just a visually appetizing alteration).
Generally not a bad presentation that could need a bit more work, though.

You make some really great points, especially about the nav bar tabs, you're absolutely right. Will fix that soon for sure. I will have to think about the overall layout of the site, i might add some vector art here and there, play about with the layout, just to bring life to it...i did rush this portfolio somewhat as i rarely get time to work on my own projects.
