It seems that some of the bigger names are or were inlvolved with domains in the Adult industry due to the massive amount of traffic/interest they get.

Do you think this is still necessary to get ahead ? (no pun intended :| )

Whats your thoughts on this ?

Thanks

So...
Those who don't get ahead... get stuck behind (pun intended)?
I'm screwed then (another intentional bad pun).

I think not exploring adult domains, is simply not investing wisely. Adult names have quick turnaround and are always in demand for quality. I tend to sell quite a few in that market.

Fact of the matter is- sex sells and always will. It's tried and proven. However, I don't think you need to be in the adult industry to get ahead many people here maintain portfolios that stays clear of adult names. I personally don't do adult names as that's not a niche I feal I can work or would enjoy. But if I saw a name I with plenty of traffic at a good price- I would def pick it up. It's so hard to come around good adult names today with coughing up a few as the good ones aren't being sold cheap.

I mean is it due to the revenue from good high traffic names that the most successful domainers have got to a position where they can now afford to snap up all these other good keyword domains ?

Daily I will pickup some adult domain names, and try to flip them on the adult boards. I do alright, sell them for $50-300 - every week I get 1 or 2 and its definetly a much needed revenue source.

Are you selling/buying them mainly based on the name or the traffic ? (incoming links etc)

Honestly, adult traffic names are very tough to capture. I find expired names that are more vanity (look nice). Thats what I try to flip.

IE - JustFatties.com, ExploitedAmateur.com, ect

I haven't had any luck with adult domains at all and accordingly, I've gotten out of the market. The parking revenue is low (maybe it's because where I'm parking at) and I don't find there is a large pool of buyers (at least that I have contact with).

so far I have never bought an adult domain,

but it would be great to hear more opinions on this topic.

When getting into affiliate marketing, I made a personal choice not to get into any fields that I am uncomfortable promoting. For the most part, that including gambling related, and 'adult' themes, because I can see the government wanting to go after active players in that arena. Additionally, I stayed away from alcohol, in the sense of seling those products, though I have no problem owning alcohol related domains. And, finally, I chose not to promote cigarrette related affiliate sites because, well, smoking killed my dad when he was 51: I was 8.

Lol, even so, after cutting out alcohol, cigarrettes, gambling and porn, I can make lots of money promoting niche products on the internet. But, I am more of a developer/affiliate marketer rather than a straight domainer/page parker.

I am in the same position.
very low revenue, and very hard to sell.
I guess you really need to know the market well to succeed in it, and the adult market, although large, is very specialized.

I've avoided the adult industry entirely with no regrets. One of those areas for me where personal ethics trumps profit.

sold my gambling names long time ago.
No hardcore adult names or contents on any of my sites.
However it is very interesting comparing with my other LLLL names, the following has
3x of the traffic (without any adult contents):
http://NkSx.com
http://FvSx.com
http://RWSx.com

There are dozens and dozens of different markets within the domain industry that people can get ahead in...adult is just one of them. I got ahead more or less with gambling names and keyword ccTLD names like poker.ext names, though I've had my fair share of adult domain sales and in general with expired domains of all sorts. I see keep an open mind about what you will make your money on until you have enough money and strength of portfolio that you can choose to ignore particular markets like adult and gambling and not suffer too much (BuyDomains being a perfect example of that).

adult domains consist of 8% of my portfolio and over the last 3 months provided 20% of the traffic and 33% of the revenue.

SX = Stock Exchange...perhaps those are abbreviations for some stock exchanges in particular countries?

Personally I do not own any adult name.
I think everyone of us has some specialties. In every niche market there are some rules, and you need to perfect them. It is very hard to manage a very big portfolio, consisting all sorts of domain names (tech, gambling, adult, web - or cctld's .net's .mobi's etc). You need to dedicate a lot of time to manage that.

The adult industry (though I am not an insider) might have its own "rules", maybe there are some parking companies that work better with them etc.

From an ethical point of view it is a personal matter if you wish to go ahead.
From my point of view, I would go with them if I would feel prepared to deal with them, and allocate adult domains a separate amount of time.

One thing is clear: adult business will be prosperous always on the internet.
