I'm getting close to my inode limited of 250,000. I also notice some failure to connect to the database. I've got about 30 domains host so not bad for $7.95. Should i be worried about the inode limited? what will happen,:ghost::talk: crashes?

I would contact their support department about this - they will be able to give you the best answer

Yes well they lie, don't they. The probably don;t want to say there is problem because of their unlimited ad champaign.

Out of curiosity, if you are worried about your provider lying to you, why are you with them? An honest provider will relay any information to you, good or bad.

How can you have so many files uploaded? LOL
if you are running a file sharing service, then you may want to clean up the files.

The HostGator Terms of Service which you agreed to outlines exactly what happens when you reach that figure. (I assume you did indeed read this? :))

In short, at 100,000 inodes (which it sounds like you've past) they stop backing up your website (hence hopefully you are keeping backups of your site)

At 250,000 inodes they'll warn you and then close your account (i.e. suspend you) if you don't bring the figure down.

As I say, this is all outlined in the TOS which you agreed to when you signed up with them ;)

Be kind of stupid just to suspend their customers. I contacted customer support they said noooo problem with going over 250k nodes. I complained about the 'access to database' errors that the system goes down on regular basis. They said it was hacker. lol.
I don't trust them but they are cheap. But i'm wondering if going over the nodes will really be no problem?

So tristan, how many nodes does your plan offer for 1$ per month?

Possibly, however their Terms of Service says that they will suspend so all I can suggest is to be careful and keep regular backups :)

Lol! The database errors sounds like their server might be a little overloaded or something.

Regarding the trust and nodes issue - as I say, it does say in their TOS that they'll suspend you if you go over 250,000. They might not do this, but it's always best to keep backups just in-case they do.

To be honest, the department who suspends accounts is possibly different to their general support team, and so it's possible that the support team will say "No problem" whilst another department might take another view.

Our plans start at $4.95 per month, however (since we don't oversell) we don't monitor the number of inodes :) We instead go on disk-space and bandwidth etc.

Kind Regards,
Tristan Perry

It sounds to me like you are not entirely happy with your service, except for the fact that it is cheap. There are plenty of cheap providers around, why not take your business elsewhere?

They are very defensive about their definition of "unlimited". I once tried to help someone on their forums who had a very heavy site. I recommended a VPS and one of HostGator's staff said "he doesn't need a VPS because our shared hosting is unlimited".

I think that worth to contact your current web hosting provider and ask them what they recommend you to do in this situation when you start getting troubles.

If you think about it, you're already getting quite a bit of value for the buck. ;)

To be on the safe side, you should simply get yourself another $8/month shared hosting account and this will help you spread your eggs in a second basket.

Ive never had a problem with hostgator tbh, the mysql went down yesterday and I contacted them straight away and 5 min's later it was back up, as for the inodes ive only ever went over 100k so I cant tell you anything from experience, but yeah it seems to be they suspend accounts that go over with warnings before hand. As ldcdc get your self another account or since your so paranoid it seems :P move hosting provider. There perfect for me because im averaging 130gb of bandwidth per month and I need something that's unlimited and cheap because that figure is just gona go up. Good luck with what ever you do.

It won't crash. But you can look for alternatives that don't have those restrictions. For around $10 there's a lot of players around.

Well i found webproz, $108 per year, unlimited domains up to 10gb storage. Looks like tristian is capped at 2g. I'm using 2.5gb with getor right now.
So this is the answer: 250,000 nodes is about 2.5 gbs of storage.

Getor is a good deal but i've tested the speed - getor is very slow! I hoping webproz is gonna be faster.

Try to avoid such payments. Pay month to month to be able to check how they are. Then if you are 100% certain you will be able to switch.
