Ok, so I thought I would start making pictured guides for NamePros members new to domaining. This guide is about getting your site listed on google nearly immediately. (I posted this on my blog, other than that, it is 100% original)

(+rep appreciated)

1) Sign up at the google webmasters page. URL: www.google.com/webmasters

2) Once signed in, add your website (or multiple websites) in the box provided. If you have any problem, look at the picture below.

3) Once done that, go here: http://www.xml-sitemaps.com.

4) Enter the specifications and create your site map. Note, this may take a while depending on how large your website is.

5) Download the uncompressed or compressed XML sitemap.

6) Once you have your sitemap downloaded, don't do anything to it, and upload it to your websites server.

7) Go back to your google webmasters account, and click on the sitemap section, and click "Submit a sitemap"

8) Once your sitemap is submitted, don't delete it from your server. It will take a few hours for Google to browse your sitemap, and it may take up to a a few days to update your site on Google. (or it may take a few hours, as it does sometimes for me)

I hope you found my guide easy to use, and if you have any questions, feel free to post or send a pm over.

BTW, +rep is always appreciated ;)

More articles like these can be found on my blog, the link is in my signature.

Thanks :D

Hi nice tutorial, I'm having a problem related to this. I actually did this a few weeks back, i have had my site up for over 2 months bursting with content and its still not indexed in google... My site is http://www.wiioodle.com - the forum got indexed but not the site, driving me crazy.

Hmmm... thats bizarre. So im assuming you were able to successfully put up a sitemap of your whole site? If so, it should have indexed your main page.

All I can say is try again.... =/

It`s not about sitemap. Your homepage is just bunch of about 200 outgoing links and ads. Also other pages have not enough content. I think Google does not find any value in these pages. Put there at least 200 words original text and less than 100 links on page.

Nice read! ;)

There are also other ways to get indexed in G. A single backlink from a (dofollow) sit, directory, forum, blog that is frequently crawled by SE bots will have you indexed as well.

And I thought if the sites gets automatically indexed by Google the better.
Some SEO master says its better that Google finds naturally instead of submitting into them.
Is it true??

Ive never been able to confirm that, and I have no idea how that "SEO master" would be able to confirm that either.

So as for what I think... no, I don't think it's better for Google to find the site naturally.

First, I truly think that if it were better to let google find it, then Google would say so in the dozens of guides they have on indexing. Don't you?

Plus my guide is better than just submitting your site to google. With my guide you submit all your url's to google, and get them indexed faster. :D

it's probably better (and faster) to have search engines find your site by themselves instead of submitting to them. that being said, submitting a sitemap isn't the same as submitting your site.

the purpose of a sitemap isn't to "get listed immediately," it's to help crawlers crawl your site the way you want them to... so this thread is a bit misleading...

Well, it depends on the way you look at it.

By submitting your sitemap, google crawlers "crawl" your site much faster. Again, normally it would take around 2 weeks for your site to get indexed. By submitting your site's sitemap, Google crawls it and idexes your site faster.

just because your site is crawled faster doesn't mean it will get indexed "nearly immediately." actually, your site might not be indexed at all according to google.

...the main purpose of a Sitemap is to make the job of the search spiders easier and more efficient, thus encouraging a faster crawl rate in the future. So while it has great long term effects, itโ€™s not necessarily going to be the heavy hitter in getting you indexed quick.

again, this thread is a bit misleading...
